Ford first met Buckley in 1986 at a fashion show, and the two married in 2014. Alexander John “Jack” Buckley Ford, their 8-year-old son, is their only child.

Buckley began his career in the fashion industry in 1979 at New York Magazine, where he was born in New York and raised in the United States, France, and Germany.

He went on to work for publications such as Women’s Wear Daily and Vanity Fair during the course of his decades-long career.

Ford designed for Gucci while Buckley was the European editor of Mirabella magazine and a contributing editor at Italian Vogue.

Buckley went on to become the editor-in-chief of Vogue Hommes International after that.

The fashion industry is mourning the death of the legendary journalist, with Stella McCartney, who also happens to be Jack’s godmother, leading the tributes with a touching Instagram post on Tuesday.

Buckley “died of natural causes following a long illness,” according to a statement from Ford’s reps.
