Romain Cannone is a French fencer who won gold in solo epée at the 2020 Olympic Games. In Colmar, France, he was named Sportsperson of the Year for 2020.

Cannone, who was merely supposed to be a substitute athlete for the 2020 French squad, was the team’s youngest member.

When teammate Daniel Jérent was dismissed from the squad due to a failing drug test on June 18, 2021, Cannone was chosen to take his place.

He won the gold medal against Gergely Siklosi, the former world champion, on July 25, 2021.
