Al Roker jokes about critics who say he’s too old to cover Ida: ‘Try to keep up’

Al Roker has been reporting from New Orleans when Hurricane Ida, a Category 4 storm, made landfall in southeastern Louisiana on Sunday. The veteran meteorologist became a trending topic on Twitter when viewers took to social media to express concern about Roker, 67, who was covering the storm at his age.

“Get 67-year-old Al Roker out of this hurricane,” wrote one user.

“Al Roker is getting too old in the NBC storm! He’s 67! I’m sure Rocker feels like he’s 40 and he loves it!” commented another. Roker addressed the comments with a post on Instagram, informing viewers that he and his team are safe.

“For all those who were concerned about me at #lakepontchartrain covering #Ida a) I volunteered to do this. Part of the job. B) My team and I were safe and we are back at our hotel and c) for those who I think I’m too old to do this, try to keep up, “he wrote.

Roker also used his appearance as an opportunity to address critics who said he is too old to report amid dangerous weather. “I volunteered to come here. I’ve done it for 40 years,” he said. “Our crews, we all make sure we’re safe, and we’re not going to do anything to put ourselves in danger. As much as I like the weather and NBC, I’m not risking my life for it.”

Second, ‘Well, is he too old to do this’? Well, hey, fuck you. OKAY? And try to keep up. Keep going, okay? “He joked.” These young punks. I’ll go after them. I’ll drop them like a bag of dirt. “Hurricane Ida made landfall along the Gulf Coast near Port Fourchon, Louisiana’s southernmost port, on Sunday, the 16th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina that struck New Orleans. .
