Why Twitter thinks Johnny Depp has Tourette’s: Comment in court explained

Now in its sixth week, the defamation case between actor Johnny Depp and ex-wife Amber Heard is due to draw to a close.

Earlier this week, Depp returned to the stand to assure the jury that he’d “never in my life committed sexual battery, physical abuse.”

The Hollywood star was later objected to for relevance by Heard’s attorney, and Depp quickly snapped back with a sarcastic comment.

He then blamed his rash fire back on Tourette’s, and Twitter soon picked up on this, wondering if Johnny Depp actually has a condition of the nervous system.

Johnny Depp is suing Amber Heard for defamation due to an op-ed she wrote for the Washington Post in 2018. He has asked for $50 million in damages. Heard is countersuing Depp and has asked for $100 million in damages and immunity against his claims.

On Wednesday (25 May), actor Johnny Depp took to the stand once again to testify in the defamation case against his ex-wife.

“No human being is perfect, certainly not, none of us,” the Pirates of the Caribbean star started. “But I have never in my life committed sexual battery, physical abuse.

“No matter what happens, I did get here and I did tell the truth and I have spoken up for what I have been carrying on my back reluctantly for six years.”

His attorney then turned the discussion to Heard obtaining a restraining order against Depp in 2016.

“It changed everything,” the Hollywood star said, before being objected to by Amber’s attorney.

“Oh, it didn’t change everything?” Depp challenged.

“Sir, if you could wait for the objection, please,” Judge Penney Azcarate told Depp.

“I’m sorry. Tourette’s,” the actor said.

Twitter users wonder if Johnny Depp has Tourette’s

After Johnny Depp’s quick-witted Tourette comment, social media users took to Twitter to wonder if the star actually has Tourette’s.

“Does Johnny Depp actually have Tourette’s or…?” one person tweeted.

“That joke was in poor taste if he doesn’t have Tourette’s,” another wrote.

“Did Johnny Depp just say he has Tourette’s?” somebody else questioned.

Hollywood star has never addressed Tourette Syndrome

Tourette Syndrome (TS) is a condition of the nervous system and can cause people to have sudden twitches, movements, or sounds, otherwise known as tics.

Johnny Depp has never explicitly addressed Tourette Syndrome and, as far as we know, he is not diagnosed with it.

However, as reported by Wonderwall, the actor’s parents thought he had Tourette’s because he was a withdrawn kid who made weird noises and exhibited strange behaviours.
