10 Dead in Rare Canadian Mass Shooting

Eight people, including the shooter, were killed at a secondary school, and two more were found dead at a home believed connected with the shooting.

Ten people including the shooter are dead after a mass shooting at a Canadian high school on Tuesday.

Six people were killed inside the school in the small town of Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, Reuters reported. Another two people were found dead at a home connected with the shooting, and another person died en route to a hospital.

Two more people were hospitalized with serious wounds with about two dozen more treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police did not say if the victims were teachers, staff, or students.

The shooter, described as female, was found dead with a self-inflicted injury.

An active shooter alert described the suspect “as female in a dress with brown hair,” and Police Superintendent Ken Floyd said that was the person found dead in the school.

Tumbler Ridge is a remote town in the Rocky Mountain foothills with a population of about 2,400. The Tumbler Ridge Secondary School has about 160 students in grades 7 through 12, its website says.

The school has been closed for the rest of the week.

No further information was released for the time being.
