2 14-Year-Old Girls Arrested for Murder of 93-Year-Old Kansas Woman

A pair of 14-year-old Kansas girls were arrested this week for the Labor Day weekend murder of a 93-year-old woman last year.

Joanne R. Johnson was found dead in her Augusta home, were she lived alone, and her death was ruled a homicide, KWCH reported. Eight months later, Governor Laura Kelly and Johnson’s family offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation said it had not identified a relationship between the girls, 13 at the time of the murder, and Johnson, whose family said they did not know the girls.

Family said they were in shock to learn the suspected killers were two young teens but said they were relieved at the breakthrough.

The two girls, who have not been named because of their ages, were arrested on Thursday and charged with first degree murder, according to WDAF. The girls, both from Augusta, are being held in separate juvenile detention centers.
