Georgia authorities are searching for a man who allegedly skipped bond while facing charges for raping an 8-year-old girl in 2021.
DeKalb County authorities told WAGA that there is an active warrant for Travis Levy, 53, who failed to appear for a plea hearing in February. Levy, who was on parole at the time of the assault, bonded out of jail in April 2022 after being charged with rape, child molestation, and cruelty to children.
Court records indicated that Levy was granted $60,000 bond despite prosecutors’ objections.
Before missing February’s hearing, Levy allegedly went to the victim’s school and paid a student for information about her whereabouts.
WAGA reported that Levy and the victim are related. The victim’s family is especially concerned because Levy works in HVAC — a profession that puts him in people’s homes.
“The only reason he got a bond is because he wasn’t indicted in time due to Covid,” one of the victim’s family members told the news outlet.
The victim’s family said they are taking additional precautions as Levy’s whereabouts remain unknown.
The victim’s relative also told WAGA, “For him to be caught. I could just … the Christmas that we will have. It will be amazing. It will be amazing.”
