Police tape

An unknown shooter opened fire into a vehicle leaving a youth football practice Tuesday night, wounding three people — two of them children.

Birming Ham Police Sgt. LaQuitta Wade said that injuries to one of the children were “life threatening.”

Both children were taken to Children’s Hospital, and the adult wounded was taken to University of Alabama-Birmingham Hospital.

Two more people in the car were not struck by bullets, according to the Trussville Tribune. The shooter fired from another vehicle, Wade said.

Wade said police were alerted to the shots fired by a ShotSpotter shortly after 8 p.m. The alert indicated about 20 rounds fired.

No one is in custody, and Wade did not say if police have identified a suspect.
