An investigation is underway in California after a 2-month-old girl was found in a hot car last Thursday.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reported that on June 13, the infant was found unresponsive in a car parked for several hours outside a home in Santee. The infant was transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Officials have not publicly identified the deceased infant. A neighbor told KNSD that Ring camera footage captured police and paramedics responding to the scene after the baby was found lifeless in the car.

Officials said the medical examiner’s office will confirm the 2-month-old’s cause and manner of death.

This appears to be the third child to die in a hot car this year. According to No Heat Stroke, 29 children died in hot cars in 2023.
