Self-confessed K-Pop fan Biden will host BTS at the White House on Tuesday to discuss anti-Asian hate crime and the ‘importance of diversity and inclusion’

President Biden will welcome K-pop sensations BTS to the White House on Wednesday for an event on anti-Asian hate crime, it was announced on Thursday.

The band that has a massive global fan base will appear in person alongside Biden, who has previously confessed he is a fan.

The group are the latest celebrities the White House has turned to on their agenda after Jill Biden welcomed Selena Gomez to talk about mental health and the president had the Jonas Brothers appear in a video on vaccines.

The White House announced the event next week, even though they have still not finalized when Biden and first lady Jill will visit Uvalde following the school massacre.

In May 2021, in a meeting with the South Korean President Moon Jae-In at the White House, he said ‘K-pop fans are universal.’

‘I can tell those who laugh know what I’m talking about. Anyway I’ll get back to that later.’

Last week, Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris condemned attacks against minority communities at a White House event on Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.

‘Hate can have no safe harbor in America. And every person deserves to be treated with dignity and respect,’ Biden said.

BTS have turned to social issues such as violence by partnering with UNICEF on the Love Myself campaign. They have also performed at the United Nations General Assembly.

‘On Tuesday, May 31st, global K-pop phenomenon and Grammy-nominated musical group from the Republic of Korea BTS (Bangtan Sonyeondan or ‘Beyond the Scene’) will join President Biden to discuss Asian inclusion and representation, and to address anti-Asian hate crimes and discrimination which have become more prominent issues in recent years, the White House said in the statement

‘President Biden has previously spoken about his commitment to combating the surge of anti-Asian hate crimes and signed into law the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act in May 2021 to provide law enforcement with resources to identify, investigate, and report hate crimes and ensure that hate crimes information is more accessible to AA and NHPI communities.

‘President Biden and BTS will also discuss the importance of diversity and inclusion and BTS’ platform as youth ambassadors who spread a message of hope and positivity across the world.’
