A missing Mississippi toddler was found dead in Alabama near where her mother’s body was found the day before.
Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones, who is also the interim police chief of the Jackson Police Department, said 3-year-old Janae McGill’s body was found on Friday, WAPT reported.
The body of her mother, 32-year-old Shardee McGill was found on Thursday in a shallow body of water, as CrimeOnline reported.
McGill and her daughter were reported missing on Tuesday by her husband, Johnathon McGill, who said the two had left their home on Sunday night and not returned. It wasn’t clear why he waited until Tuesday to report them missing.
Jones called the mother’s death “suspicious.”
McGill’s black Chevy Equinox was found earlier last week near Epes, Alabama, some 140 miles from Jackson. Her body was also found in the area.
Jones said last week that Johnathon McGill was questioned and released after his wife’s body was found.
Cause and manner of death for the mother and daughter have not been released.
