BREAKING: Police Detain Person of Interest in Nancy Guthrie Disappearance

Authorities in Arizona detained a person of interest in connection with the disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie.

According to The New York Times, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and FBI detained the person Tuesday night, south of Tucson, in Rio Rico, for questioning.

A search will be carried out in an area associated with the person of interest, law enforcement sources told ABC News.

Earlier Tuesday, FBI Director Kash Patel shared security footage and photos in connection with Guthrie’s disappearance, but it’s unclear whether the detained individual is the suspect seen on the footage.

NBC News reports that the person detained is a male, while TMZ reports that, according to a law enforcement source, he is not a Guthrie family member.

The FBI said the videos and photos were obtained from Guthrie’s Nest doorbell camera, at her Catalina Foothills home. The suspect is seen wearing a mask, a long-sleeved zip-up shirt, a backpack, pants, and gloves.

Patel said one of the videos shows the individual with a holstered gun.

The suspect appeared to have been attempting to tamper with the camera with a glove, before grabbing some flowers and placing them in front of the camera.

Family members said Nancy Guthrie was last seen on January 31, after having dinner at her daughter Annie Guthrie’s residence. A family member then dropped her off at home.

Nancy’s family reported her missing at around noon on February 1, after she missed church. Nancy has been identified as the mother of “Today” show host, Savannah Guthrie.

Investigators later found blood on her front porch, confirmed to be Nancy’s. Officials said that around 1:47 a.m. on February 1, Nancy’s doorbell camera had been disconnected. At 2 a.m., Nancy’s pacemaker pinged her phone.

At around 2:12 a.m., security camera software detected movement, Nanos said, although he could not confirm where the movement came from.

On Thursday, the FBI announced a $50,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of anyone associated with Nancy Guthrie’s abduction.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the FBI tip line at 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324). Tipsters can also contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department tip line at 520-351-4900.
