Bride-to-be Mother Randomly Shot in D.C. Weeks Before Wedding, Says She Will Never Return to Area

A mom-of-three shot at a D.C. nightclub on Friday night says she won’t be returning to the area after getting caught in the crossfire.

According to FOX 5 DC, a suspect identified as Rennwel Mantock is accused of opening fire at Decades on Connecticut Avenue NW at around 11:30 p.m. Several people were injured, including “Katie,” a mom of three children who was scheduled to wed.

“I’m in a lot of pain, and I am just thankful that I am alive,” she told FOX 5 DC. “The bouncer lifted up the rope after the first shot was fired, and then as I was running … I got hit.”

NBC 4 Washington reports that Mantock had been kicked out of the club shortly before he opened fire. Six people were injured during the incident, with non-life-threatening injuries. Police captured him shortly after the shooting.

He’s now facing charges of possession of unregistered ammunition, possession of an unregistered firearm, and assault with intent to kill.

Meanwhile, Katie reportedly said she won’t be returning to the area.

“I will never return to the streets of D.C. I was doing nothing wrong in what was supposed to be the safest place in D.C., and I got shot.”
