Celebrated Alabama Sports Journalist, Husband Found Dead in Apparent Murder-Suicide

A beloved Alabama sports reporter and high school journalism teacher was found dead alongside her husband Tuesday morning in an apparent murder-suicide.

A family member found the bodies of Christina Chambers and Johnny Rimes in their home at around 9 a.m., WBRC reported. The couple’s 3-year-old son was in the home, unharmed.

Hoover Police said the couple died from gunshot wounds.

Chambers had worked with WBRC since 2015, leaving her full-time role in 2021 to focus on teaching at Thompson High School in Alabaster. She previously worked at WAKA in Montgomery, WLTZ in Columbus, Georgia, and the regional Comcast Sports Southeast in Atlanta.

Rimes was a business analyst at American Cast Iron Pipe Company, according to LinkedIn.

Police have provided no further information about the deaths but said they are still investigating.
