College Cheerleader Hid Infant’s Body in Trash Bag After Giving Birth

A University of Kentucky student is out of jail days after she was arrested for allegedly putting her deceased baby in a closet.

WLEX reported that Laken Riley, 21, posted $100,000 bond and is at her parents’ home without any monitoring. On Saturday, Lexington police allegedly found her deceased baby in a closet, wrapped in a towel in a trash bag.

According to the Lexington Herald Leader, Snelling confessed to giving birth before putting cleaning supplies and the infant in the trash bag.

Snelling was charged with abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence, and concealing the birth of an infant. She is due in court on September 26.

The Lexington Herald Leader reported that an autopsy was performed on August 29. The infant’s cause of death has not been disclosed.

Lexington, who is from Tennessee, is a senior studying interdisciplinary disability at the University of Kentucky. Reports indicated that she is also on the college’s STUNT Team, a competitive sport which incorporates athletic and technical components of cheerleading. The team began competing in 2021, a year after the university adopted the varsity sport.
