An investigation is underway in Michigan, where a United States Postal Service employee was reportedly found dead in a mail handling machine last week.
Maintenance worker Nicholas Aker, 36, was found deceased at a USPS mail processing facility in Allen Park. He is believed to have died six to eight hours before his body was found — after his fiancée noticed he had not returned home from his shift and contacted authorities, according to WDIV.
Police have called Aker’s death “accidental,” though it is unclear how he got trapped in the large machine, which weighs and sorts parcels.
Aker’s fiancée told WDIV that he worked at the USPS facility for about a year. CBS reported that federal authorities are leading the investigation into Aker’s death, as it occurred in a federal government building.
