A fatal stabbing in California late Friday night has sparked a homicide investigation as San Diego police search for a group of suspects.
According to Homicide Lt. Lou Maggi, on Friday, shortly after 11:00 p.m. in the 1600 block of Logan Avenue, responding officers discovered a 28-year-old victim collapsing in a nearby alley from injuries. While medical aid was administered immediately by both a bystander and professionals at the scene, the injuries proved fatal.
Maggi confirmed the man, identified as being of Somali descent, died after being rushed to a trauma center.
Investigators have determined that the victim was cornered by a group consisting of three Hispanic men and one Hispanic woman before being attacked by members of the crowd, CBS 8 reported.
While a man and a woman were initially detained near the scene for questioning, they have since been released as the investigation continues.
Detectives remained in the neighborhood throughout Saturday to canvas for witnesses and collect evidence, though no specific suspect descriptions have been made public.
The victim’s identity is currently being withheld pending the notification of his next of kin.
