Two employees at a Kroger Distribution Center in Memphis got into an argument last week that ended with one of the men stabbing the other to death.
Anderson Todd, 55, has been charged with second degree murder in the death of Jarcoby Hopson, WMC reports. According to a police affidavit, Todd stabbed Hopson four times.
The affidavit doesn’t say what started the argument, but it says the two men were shouting at each other, using profanity, at about 9 a.m. on December 26. A witness told police that Hopson got off his forklift and invited Todd to fight him in an area where there are no cameras. Todd declined, and Hopson pulled Todd’s cap down over his eyes.
The two men began physically fighting.
A witness said he saw Todd make a stabbing motion, followed by Hopson telling Todd to stop stabbing him. The witness got between the two men to stop the fight, and Hopson backed away and collapsed.
Todd, the report said, went to the break room to wait for police.
According to the Memphis Commercial Appeal, Todd is to be arraigned on Monday.
The newspaper said that Hopson was an assistant football coach at Lake Cormorant High School and that his son had signed to play football for Ole Miss.
Kroger said in a statement that the company is “deeply saddened by the loss of an associate and tragic incident that occurred at the Memphis distribution center.”
“We have been in contact with the associate’s family and offer our condolences to all impacted by this tragic loss. Counseling services for our associates at the distribution center have been initiated,” the statement said.
