A 16-year-old Florida boy has been charged as an adult with the fatal stabbing of a 14-year-old boy during a fight over a PlayStation at a group home in Oakland Park.
Ruben Whitworth was jailed on a second degree murder with a weapon charge on Thursday, WPLG reported.
The murder of 14-year-old Jordan Dowdy took place on August 25 at a group home connected with One Hope United. Transcripts of the 911 call placed by a caretaker revealed that the caretaker had broken up the fight, WSVN reported.
“Can you send me law enforcement and send me paramedics, please?” said the caretaker. “I need paramedics immediately.”
“Where was he stabbed?” asked the dispatcher.
“I don’t see the knife right now, I had to break it up and I had to get involved with this situation,” replied the caretaker, who could be heard talking with the victim, telling him to “Talk to me” and asking “Are you with me?”
Law&Crime said the fight was over a PlayStation.
According to WTVJ, Dowdy was rushed to a local hospital, where he died. There was no information on where Whitworth got the knife he used.
Whitworth was denied bond late last week.
