Hiker Injured When Suspects Throw ‘Unknown Substance’ on Her Legs at Ohio Park

Police in Ohio are investigating after two men threw “an unknown substance” on a woman hiking in a county park in Norton, causing severe burn injuries that sent her to a local hospital.

Summit Metro Parks spokesperson Lindsay Smith said the incident happened on Sunday while the woman was walking on the Chippewa Trail at Silver Creek Metro Park.

“(The men) threw an unknown substance on her legs which caused severe burns after combusting,” Smith told WJW. “She is being treated for her injuries at a local hospital.”

A helpful description of the suspects was not provided, but one had curly hair, Smith said.

“We are keeping the victim in our thoughts as she heals from this traumatic incident,” Smith said. “This type of attack is incredibly uncommon within Summit Metro Parks.”

Norton Police said Summit Metro Parks was handling the investigation but did not explain why police were not investigating an assault. They said anyone with information should contact Lt. Josh Hamblen; 330-865-8052 or [email protected].
