An Indiana man seemed to think it was a joke when he was arrested earlier this week for breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s home.
Hayden Cooper, 30, stuck his tongue out and grinned in a mugshot taken after his arrest on Wednesday. He’s been charged with felony residential entry, WBIW reported.
Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the scene by the ex-girlfriend, who told them Cooper left the scene in a pickup truck equipped with a ladder rack. The deputies quickly spotted the vehicle and conducted a “felony-style traffic stop” to take him into custody.
A probable cause statement says that the victim told the officers that she heard Cooper’s truck outside and rushed to secure the home, but forgot one wind0w — and Cooper broke the screen on that window and climbed into the living room.
A neighbor corroborated the story, telling deputies she heard loud banging as Cooper broke in and the saw him inside through the window.
The victim said she told Cooper to leave and retreated into her bedroom. When she later walked outside the home, Cooper followed her out.
She told deputies that he was her ex-boyfriend, that he had never lived in the home where she lived with her 5- and 7-year-old children, and that he did not have permission to enter. She said she told him she did not want to have any further contact with him, and he threatened to release private videos of her.
Cooper demanded an attorney and refused to speak with with detectives but made a visual statement at his booking.
