Long Island Volleyball Coach Commits Suicide After He’s Charged With Raping 15-Year-Old Girl

A 22-year-old Long Island volleyball coach “intentionally” stepped in front of a Long Island Rail Road train on Friday, just hours after appearing in court on charges that he sexually assaulted one of his players.

Jason Maser was charged with rape, criminal sexual act, and endangering the welfare of a minor for assaulting a 15-year-old girl he coached at Sacred Heart Academy and B & B Volleyball Club, WNBC reported. The rapes took place on February 7 and March 7, police said.

Maser was released on a $75,000 bail after a court appearance in Nassau County in which he pleaded not guilty, according to Newsday.

Maser’s attorney, John Carman, said his client was a part time coach at Sacred Heart.

Carman said after the suicide that he was “not in a position to comment.”
