Married At First Sight groom Chris Nield’s shock criminal history has been exposed.
Daily Mail can reveal that the 31-year-old construction supervisor from Victoria has a chequered legal history that includes common assault and drink-driving convictions.
Court records out of Tasmania paint a troubling picture of Nield’s past run-ins with the law.
Back in 2015, the reality TV hopeful faced charges of common assault, with multiple court appearances in Hobart spanning from March to August that year.
The case kicked off with a hearing on March 16, followed by another on April 23, a full hearing on July 9, and finally a decision on August 14.
While details of the assault remain under wraps, the repeated court dates suggest it was no minor scuffle.

Fast forward to 2019, and court records indicate Nield was back in hot water again, this time for driving a motor vehicle while exceeding the prescribed alcohol limit.
The case dragged on in the Hobart Magistrates’ Court with hearings on May 20 and August 13, culminating in a facts, sentence, and restricted licence application hearing on October 30 that year.
In a recent interview with Daily Mail, Nield insisted he’s ‘owning’ his past errors and charging ahead, including a planned move to the Gold Coast.
‘Obviously, everyone’s got issues. I’ve got my fair share of issues as well. Yeah. For me, it’s about moving forward,’ he said.
‘I’m putting myself in a better place and that’s what the Gold Coast is to me as well.
‘I want to get up there, get back into my fitness and get myself in a good head space and push forward in life because yeah, I’ve made mistakes.
‘Everyone’s made mistakes. As I said, I’ve probably made more than most people, but yeah. But for me, it’s about owning it and that’s what I’ve done. So now, yeah, to bigger and better.’
Nield said he suspected his past would resurface when he agreed to join the show.

‘For me I knew like, why would you go, why would you go on a TV show? Why would you put yourself out there to be picked apart if you weren’t comfortable with your life or your personal life?’ he said.
‘So for me, that was a decision that I made right at the start. Like I knew.’
The revelation about Nield’s past legal woes come amid reports of an explosive off-camera incident that reportedly led to him being booted from the show just weeks into filming.
Insiders claim the groom was ‘made to leave’ within 48 hours after clashing with producers, following his disastrous ‘marriage’ to 27-year-old Queensland model Brook Crompton, who has since announced her engagement and shock pregnancy with an ex-boyfriend.
From the bucks’ party, Nield shocked viewers with his brutal comments, declaring he hates ‘fake tan, needy and fat people’ and that ‘looks are massive’ – remarks branded ‘disgusting’ and ‘toxic’ by former MAFS star Katie Johnston.
Nield told Daily Mail he wasn’t worried about what the other contestants thought about him, as they had their own dirty secrets.
‘It’s funny ’cause like I know there’s people on the cast at the moment that are worried about certain things and I said at the time, “I was wondering why would you put yourself on TV or in this situation if you were worried about that?” And for me, I’m not worried about anything,’ he said.
Nield acknowledged that haters were bound to emerge.

‘People are gonna come forward, people that, you’re p***ed off or you’re annoyed in life. There’s always gonna be someone that does something. But for me, I’m not; I don’t step away from it. I own things that I’ve done. I apologise if I’ve made a mistake. So I’m not worried to any extent,’ he said.
Nield dismissed the false rumours as ‘bulls**t’.
‘It’s more or less just bulls**t and things that aren’t true. Because when people come forward and say things about you that aren’t true, you still have to defend yourself, and it makes you look stupid,’ he said.
‘So for me, like that’s the majority of it. I already know there are contestants this season who’ve had things said about them that aren’t true, but they still have to deal with it and push through’
Nield’s blunt approach has seen him emerge as one of the season’s most polarising figures.
Before he’d even met his bride, Nield raised eyebrows by declaring that physical attraction was a ‘massive’ priority and bluntly listing his turn-offs, including ‘fake tan,’ ‘needy people’ and ‘fat people.’
He later described himself as someone viewers would either ‘love or hate’ – a prediction that quickly proved accurate.
His marriage to Brook got off to an awkward start when she opted for a hug instead of a kiss after the ceremony.

Nield later admitted he didn’t understand the hesitation and said he wasn’t used to having to ‘work’ for someone’s affection – a comment that immediately sparked backlash.
The tension only deepened on the honeymoon, where conversations repeatedly circled back to attraction and expectations.
Nield doubled down on the importance of physical chemistry and effort, while Brook appeared increasingly uncomfortable with how blunt he was.
At one point, she suggested that if she’d known some of his views earlier, she might not have gone through with the marriage at all.
Following a rocky Intimacy Week, things came to a head when Brook decided to leave the experiment, leaving Nield to live alone in the apartment.
She did return for the Commitment Ceremony, however, using the occasion to air her grievances about Nield to the experts.
Nield received a dressing down from John Aiken over his comments about ‘fake tan, needy people and fat people’, telling him that his words ‘sent a message to women’ that he ‘wasn’t respecting them.’
Brook, however, told the experts that she was willing to give Nield a second chance, noting that he was ‘trying to be a better person’ throughout the experiment.

It was confirmed that Brook and Nield’s relationship was well and truly over after it was revealed last week that she is back with her ex-boyfriend, engaged and pregnant.
The relationship scandal erupted last week when Daily Mail revealed Brook had quietly reconnected with her ex, Harry, with footage obtained by Daily Mail showing the pair kissing and cuddling while decorating a Christmas tree in October, just weeks after her on-screen marriage to Nield imploded off-camera.
