A Pennsylvania mother was arrested at a Tullytown Walmart on Saturday after 911 caller told police he saw her drop one of her children into a cart and knocking the child unconscious.
Tullytown Burough police said the caller reported the woman appeared to be under the influence and she had been screaming profanities at both her young children while dragging one of them around the store by a backpack leash as he cried.
Police arrived at the store and found Samantha Fletcher carrying the unconscious boy.
Medics arrived to treat the boy, who needed medical attention.
According to Phillyburbs.com, shoppers reported that Fletcher “slammed” the boy into a shopping cart multiple times, hitting his head and losing consciousness during one of those times.
Police found Fletcher holding the boy with a girl asleep in the cart, a probable cause statement said. Medics were unable to awaken the boy, who by that time had a large bruise on his forehead. He was taken to St. Mary Medical Center, where he was found to have a serious concussion.
Child protective services took the children to their father’s home.
Fletcher was ultimately charged with aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of children, recklessly endangering another person, and simple assault.
She was given a $100,000 bail, police said.
