Police Officer, Gunman Dead in Shooting at Pennsylvania Hospital; At Least 4 Injured

A Pennsylvania police officer was killed Saturday morning in a shootout after a gunman opened fire at a York hospital.

The gunman was also killed, WHP reported, and several others were hospitalized.

UPMC Hospital said in a statement that no patients were injured in the shooting.

WellSpan York Hospital said in a statement that it treated  four people after it was notified for “an active shooter situation with injuries at a nearby hospital” just after 11 a.m.

The York County Office of Emergency Management said police officers responded to a “threat” at the hospital and “neutralized” it.

West York Borough identified the slain police officer as Andrew Duarte. Pennsylvania State Police confirmed that the gunman was dead but provided no further information.

Law enforcement said a news conference would eventually be scheduled.
