A man is dead after a two-car smash on Sydney’s Princes Highway at Sylvania – with the major thoroughfare closed in both directions.

A Ford Falcon and a Volkswagen van collided about 1.30pm with the Ford driver, aged in his 60s, dying at the scene.

The Volkswagen driver, in his 30s, suffered serious leg injuries. He was treated by paramedics and taken to St George Hospital.

A crime scene has been established. The Prince Highway was closed in both directions between Box Rd and Crystal St.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area and use Port Hacking Rd and the Boulevarde instead.
