The man accused of shooting a beloved Texas school teacher to death has died by suicide in a Louisiana jail.

Sugar Land, Texas, police announced this week that Charvas Thompson, 26, was found dead in the Caddo Parish jail, according to KTRK.

Thompson was awaiting extradition to Texas for the January 7 shooting death of third grade teacher Wendy Duan, 28, during some kind of argument at her home. The two met on a dating app, and Duan was found dead in her own backyard after neighbors called in the gunshots, as CrimeOnline previously reported. She had been shot multiple times.

Investigators identified Thompson as the suspect through witness interviews and surveillance vieo, which captured his vehicle’s license plate. He was arrested days later in Louisiana.

Duan’s mother, whose name was not released, said the two had been dating for about a week and met on the app “MeetMe.” She said she told her daughter she didn’t have a good feeling about him.

Duan was the language arts teacher at the Alief Independent School District and had previously been named English as a Second Language Teacher of the Year.
