Tennessee sheriff’s deputies shot and killed a suspect early Sunday morning after the the suspect fired at deputies for more than two hours then allegedly shot a woman in front of them.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said that Greene County deputies had gone to the home just before 10 p.m. Sunday to serve an arrest warrant and were shot at from inside the home.

“Shots continued to be fired from inside the house until just after midnight on Sunday,” TBI said.

Just before 12:30 a.m., the deputies found a man, later identified as 37-year-old Joshua Baker, and a woman behind the house. Baker pointed a gun at the woman and shot her, and the deputies returned fire.

Baker was pronounced dead on the scene; the woman was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

TBI is conducting the investigation into the officer-involved shooting at the request of 3rd Judicial District Attorney General Dan Armstrong. Investigators have not said if Baker was the man with the arrest warrant or why he was wanted.
