Channel 10 drops FBI season finale from schedule in response to the Texas school shooting that claimed the lives of 19 children and two teachers

The season four finale of American crime show FBI has been pulled from TV schedules in the U.S. and Australia in the wake of the elementary school shooting in Uvalde, Texas.

Nineteen children and two teachers died after 18-year-old gunman Salvador Ramos opened fire at Robb Elementary School on Tuesday. The shooter, who had earlier tried to kill his 66-year-old grandmother, was shot and killed on site by police.

The networks decided the best course of action was to cancel the broadcast as the storyline concerns the investigation of a similar crime, reports TV Tonight.

FBI, which is produced by CBS and airs in Australia on Channel 10, stars Missy Peregrym and Zeeko Zaki as members of an elite unit in the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Channel 10 will air a repeat on Sunday night instead of the finale.

CBS will re-run an FBI episode that originally aired in February, but will air the season finales of spin-off shows FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International as planned.

A synopsis of the cancelled episode, called Prodigal Son, reveals the program would have followed the investigators as they tried to prevent a potential school shooting.

It reads: ‘As the team investigates a deadly robbery that garnered a cache of automatic weapons for the killer, they discover that one of the perps is a classmate of [FBI agent] Jubal’s son, who is reluctant to co-operate in the case.’

Agent Jubal is played by actor Jeremy Sisto.

No finale: Channel 10 will air a repeat on Sunday night instead of the finale. Likewise, CBS will re-run an FBI episode that originally aired in February

The episode was written by showrunner Rick Eid and directed by Alex Chapple.

Missy Peregrym, 39, who plays FBI agent Maggie Bell in the series, shared a message of support on social media in the wake of the shooting in Texas and commended the network for withdrawing the episode.

Texas governor Greg Abbott said the gunman, identified as Uvalde resident Salvador Ramos, 18, began his rampage upon entering Robb Elementary School armed with a handgun and rifle.

A Border Patrol agent who was in the area killed Ramos, a law enforcement official told the AP under condition of anonymity, noting that the agent was injured but able to walk away from the school.
