Timothy Busfield alleged there is ‘no proof’ of his wrongdoing after he was charged with child sexual abuse.
On Friday, Busfield’s legal team filed a new motion in opposition to the state’s motion for pretrial detention.
In court documents obtained by Us Weekly, his attorneys criticized the state’s motion for pretrial imprisonment ‘based on a story that has already collapsed under independent scrutiny.’
The Daily Mail has reached out to Busfield’s attorney for comment but hasn’t yet received a response.
The 68-year-old actor and director was arrested earlier this week, just three days earlier, after he surrendered himself to New Mexico law enforcement when they put out an arrest warrant.
He was accused of sexual misconduct and inappropriately touching two child actors on the set of Fox’s The Cleaning Lady, a crime drama series in which he had directed three episodes.

He faces two charges of alleged criminal sexual contact with a minor and one of child abuse.
His wife Melissa Gilbert also voiced her support for her ‘sweet husband’ as she pleaded with the judge to keep him ‘protected’ in jail as he awaits his trial.
‘The state offers no reliable proof,’ the legal documents read before claiming there exists ‘only allegations advanced by witnesses with documented histories of fraud and financial exploitation.’
Via his attorneys’ filing, Busfield also claimed that the accusations are ‘contradicted by a comprehensive studio investigation’ as well as ‘refuted by witnesses and objective risk assessments.’
The court documents read: ‘The Constitution does not allow liberty to be forfeited on such a foundation. The state’s motion should be denied.’
He remains in jail and while there, Busfield had directly addressed the claims in a video and denied the accusations, per TMZ.
‘I’m going to confront these lies. They’re horrible. They’re all lies, and I did not do anything to those little boys,’ he said.
‘I’m going to fight it,’ he continued. ‘I’m going to fight it with a great team, and I’m going to be exonerated. I know I am because this is all so wrong and all lies.’

His attorney, Larry Stein, also released a statement via Us Weekly: ‘Tim Busfield denies the allegations in the criminal complaint and maintains they are completely false.
As a voluntary step, he submitted to an independent polygraph examination regarding those allegations and passed.’
Busfield made his first appearance in court on Wednesday, the day after he was taken into custody, and did not enter in a plea.
He is set to remain in custody until his second court hearing scheduled for next week.
While Busfield remains in detention, his wife submitted a letter to the judge and pleaded for his ‘protection.’
‘The reality is that Tim Busfield is my love, my rock, my partner in business and life,’ she gushed about her husband of over a decade in the legal document, according to People.
‘He is my comfort and my council. His joy, humor and quick wit bring sparkle to my life. Tim is, quite simply, the beating heart of our wild and wonderful extended family.’
She also said that Busfield has the ‘strongest moral compass of any human I have ever known’ and has ‘dedicated his spiritual self to always being of service to others.’

Gilbert said that on ‘every single set where Tim is working,’ she has had ‘multiple people’ tell her that he is ‘their favorite director ever.’
‘Actually, people say that to me in restaurants, on red carpets and in grocery stores too.
His former students tell me he was their favorite teacher ever. I cannot tell you how it has warmed my heart over and over again to hear people, from so many different walks of life, tell me they encountered my husband in some way and he is their favorite. He is my favorite.’
She also wrote about how he ‘nurtured and guided’ her youngest son Michael, who was a teenager when Gilbert and Busfield started dating.
She said that as her son’s stepfather, Busfield ‘admonished, praised, loved, consoled, cajoled, fretted, cared for, and fed my son both physically and spiritually.’
She also credited his former military training for his values and principles before concluding the lengthy statement by admitting ‘this is the strangest letter I’ve ever had to write’ and asked the judge to ‘please, please take care of my sweet husband.’
‘As he is my protector, I am his, but I cannot protect him now and I think that, more than anything else, is what is truly breaking my heart, I am relying on you to protect him for me.’
