A 49-year-old Oklahoma woman was found dead in a trash can at her home earlier this week, and her adopted teenage son has been charged with killing her.
Logan County deputies conducted a welfare check at the home of Spring Weems on Wednesday after an anonymous caller said they hadn’t seen her recently, KOCO reported.
As CrimeOnline reported, the deputies spoke with two teens, quickly learning that the woman who owned the home was missing. Deputies searched the property and found the woman dead with “injuries consistent with homicide.”
“Based on the information and evidence obtained, one of the teens was placed into custody and will be transported to a juvenile detention facility.” the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said.
A neighbor told KOCO that she saw the two teens fighting in the yard, and one of them told her that the other had killed Weems.
“As [deputies] further searched, is when they found her,” Hunter McKee, OSBI public information manager, said.
Investigators say that Weems was a single mother with three adopted children, KWTV reported. McKee said agents had not determined a motive. Investigators are awaiting results of an autopsy for cause and manner of death.
The boy is being held at the Canadian County Juvenile Center, charged with first degree murder, according to KOCO.
