On Thursday, a dispute over a turkey led to gunfire at a North Carolina grocery store, leaving a man wounded.
High Point police officers, who responded to a local Food Lion, found the man with a gunshot wound to the arm. Police learned that the disagreement started when a customer started arguing with a grocery store employee about a turkey, according to WJBF.
Another customer reportedly intervened in the dispute, sparking an argument between the two patrons that turned physical. Police said one of the customers then went outside to get a gun.
WFMY obtained video that shows the two men fighting in front of the Food Lion. Then, one of the men is seen brandishing a gun and aiming it at the other’s face while holding onto his collar.
According to police, the altercation continued outside — where both men shot at each other.
The Food Lion employee involved in the initial disagreement told WJBF that a customer became disgruntled when she informed him that he had to make a $35 purchase to get the heavily-discounted turkey, priced at $4.44.
The employee claimed another customer intervened when the man got in her face, telling him, “That is a woman, talk to me like that.”
“The man was steady tussling, trying to get his gun out his pouch to shoot the other man. When he did finally get the gun, he pointed it at the man’s face,” the employee recalled. “The [other] man was like, ‘Oh, you wanna pull out a gun?’ He come out this door, the other come out that door…and they started shooting.”
One man was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Both men were at the scene when officers arrived and were interviewed by detectives.
It is unclear whether criminal charges have been filed in this case. An investigation is ongoing.
