A Wisconsin man accused of stabbing his 8-year-old adoptive sister to death in 2024 appeared in court Monday for a competency hearing and was ordered to trial next year.
It was Dayveon Lathrop’s third competency hearing since his sister’s death on March 9, 2024, when the girl’s father reported her missing after he returned home from running errands, WMTV reported. He had been found incompetent in July.
The father said that Lathrop, then 20, was at the home and when asked where the girl was, reportedly replied, “She is dead” but made no further comment, WMTV reported at the time.
Police found two knives in a shower in the basement of the home and eventually found the body in a tote in the laundry room. She had been stabbed multiple times.
On Monday, Lathrop was ordered to stand trial next July. He is charged with first degree intentional homicide and hiding a corpse.
