A Wisconsin man has been charged after he allegedly raped his ex-girlfriend and then brutally attacked her with a hatchet because “I’m going to prison anyway.”
A criminal complaint says that Hayden Daffinson, 34, had come to the woman’s home on Sunday to pick up his belongings after they’d broken up, WLUK reported.
Fond du Lac Police say the 38-year-old victim called them shortly before 3 p.m., saying she had been attacked with an axe. Officers rendered aid until Fire Rescue took her to St. Agnes Hospital, from which she was air-lifted to Theda Medical Center in Neenah, where she underwent extensive surgery.
By Sunday evening, she was listed in stable condition.
The complaint said Daffinson struck the victim at least 25 times with the hatchet, causing significant injuries on her back, hands, arms, and head. She suffered two broken arms and skull fractures and will likely have a finger amputated, the document says.
“Victim 1 advised that Daffinson was mad at her because she broke the relationship off but did not think he would do something like this to her,” according to the complaint.
After the rape, the document says, Daffinson told the woman, “F*** it, I’m just going to kill you, because I’m going to prison anyway.”
Duffinson was eventually located at about 7 p.m. near Germantown and was arrested after leading police on a chase at speeds up to 110 mph, the criminal complaint said.
Daffinson has been charged with attempted murder and seven other counts, including sexual assault and mayhem.
He appeared in court on Wednesday and was given a $5 million bond, with a preliminary hearing set for July 31. Officials said additional charges are anticipated.
