All the Celebrity Traitors drama you DIDN’T see on TV: Behind-the-scenes feuds, brutal clashes and a contestant who claimed production removed a ‘basic human right’

After four nail biting weeks of drama, deception and ultimate betrayal the Celebrity Traitors will conclude in Thursday’s grand finale. 

The first UK star-studded version has had the nation hooked with one in four adults tuning in for each episode as traitors Alan Carr, Cat Burns and (the now banished) Jonathan Ross chose their victim. 

There’s been no shortage of iconic memes, from Alan in his cloak, to Kate Garraway’s exclamation: ‘Maybe someone has been recruited!’ 

Joe Marler has emerged as a somewhat unexpected favourite and of course everyone was devastated when Stephen Fry was banished. 

There was no predicting how the series would pan out, however prior to the show many of the celebrities PR Manager’s were terrified of how their clients would come across after it was revealed the BBC would not let them in on the edit. 

The Daily Mail revealed: ‘The team behind the show were shocked at the number of people asking to see early edits. They were inundated with requests.’

‘Clearly the celebrities got back home after filming and have expressed concern to their teams about how they will come across during the more combative moments.’

Yet it seems most of the awkward moments and bitter feuds have occurred off screen away from the cameras.

The most dramatic moment of the series came right at the beginning when Alan murdered his dear friend Paloma Faith in plain sight. 

As the singer was carried out in her coffin in episode two, she was never able to confront her murderer face to face on the BBC show. 

However behind the scenes Alan has admitted the pregnant singer, 44, was furious at being the first victim as he revealed last month that the pair are no longer friends. 

Speaking on his Life’s A Beach podcast with DJ Norman Cook, aka Fatboy Slim, he said: ‘I’m killing people willy nilly – I’ve got a real taste for it. I killed Paloma Faith. She’s not happy about it.’

When Norman asked, ‘Aren’t you mates with Paloma?’, Alan replied, ‘Well, I was…’

Paloma also made her feelings clear on The Celebrity Traitors: Uncloaked podcast. 

While host Ed Gamble defended Alan, saying it was a difficult decision, Paloma said he was giving him too much leeway. ‘If the shoe was on the other foot, I would not have touched Alan’s face.

‘Categorically, he had a choice – maybe it was the easiest option, but it was the choice he made and I don’t think it was very nice.’

Alan has said Paloma has made it very clear to him that she was hurt by his betrayal in the series. 

He explained: ‘She said, “If you were a real friend, you wouldn’t have killed me.” But I said, “I’m the Traitor! The show’s called The Traitors – it does what it says on the tin.”

‘There’ve been a few little TikToky things where she says I’ve let her down because I killed her in plain sight.’

He added: ‘I’m going to take her for dinner. I love her. I’m such a big fan of her and she’s the best – but no one wants to be murdered first on a show. I panicked.’

Alan also publicly ignored Paloma’s pregnancy news last month after she shared her exciting news on Instagram.

However it seems over Halloween the pair made a move to put their feud to bed as Paloma reshared a hilarious Halloween throwback clip from their former celebrations together. 

Alan was dressed in a blue doll’s dress in the video as Paloma asked him: ‘Alan what happened to you? What did my daughter do?’ 

Looking furious he replied: ‘She threw a slug at me and then she basically set a rat on me which I have spoken to the police, it’s a hate crime.’ 

Resharing the clip, Paloma made a swipe at Alan’s decision to murder her as she joked: ‘We no longer feel guilty @chattyman happy Halloween throw back’.

However Alan appeared to see the funny side as he reposted the clip on his Instagram Story and penned: ‘Haha! I think we’re even now!’

Alan has also defiantly hit back at claims he’s ‘not being real’ on the show as he reacted to being scrutinised by the public. 

He told the BBC: ‘Someone sent me a clip of a psychologist on a local radio station saying I wouldn’t do well on the show because I’m playing a role and I’m not the “real” Alan Carr.’

Alan hit back against the claim: ‘That’s quite a statement considering I’ve never met this lady. It seems everyone has an opinion!’

He went on to add how he’d been working his way reading through fan theories which he felt were’ quite bizarre’ but ‘interesting to read’.

He continued: ‘I guess when you have such huge ratings this analysis of your every move comes with the territory.

‘I’ve been bathing in the love, it really has put a spring in my step, and I am loving the constant flow of memes that pop up on my feed.’

But Paloma wasn’t the only victim furious to be murdered, with actress Ruth Codd left fuming after Jonathan killed her.

Creating one of the most iconic lines of the series: ‘Don’t p**s in my ear and tell me it’s raining’, Ruth was later a victim of the broadcaster’s revenge. 

A TV insider revealed to Daily Mail: ‘Ruth was furious after she was murdered during the early stages of filming.

‘She called Jonathan a “f***ing snake” and really let go of her anger behind the scenes.

‘There was definitely frustration from Ruth that her co-stars weren’t listening to her after she correctly identified Jonathan as a Traitor.

‘Ruth felt that not many of the celebrities were following their own instincts and minds, which meant the game wasn’t always played properly.

‘It was a shame for her to be murdered so early in the competition when she had a lot more to give.’

However Jonathan has since addressed the feud, there is no ‘beef’ between him and Ruth.

Speaking on his podcast Reel Talk, Jonathan said: ‘I don’t think there was anyone there I didn’t like.

‘Obviously, some people leave earlier than other people so you don’t get to spend as long with them. So you know, the younger people who went out earlier, I didn’t get to spend as much time with Niko [Omilana] or Ruth.

‘I’ve spoken to them both since and all our lives are different but I think certainly we were friendly when we met so there’s no beef there. But I’d like to think that we could become friends.’

Lucy Beaumont took to social media after her murder as she branded the traitors ‘b******s’. 

She also admitted that she hadn’t been tuning into the series so far – and would now be forced to tune in to the final episodes to find out what happened after she left.

Updating her Instagram followers the comedian said: ‘If you have been watching Traitors tonight then you’ll know I’ve gone.’

She continued, revealing she was yet to tune in for an episode: ‘They murdered me. B******s. But now I am going to start watching the show.

‘There’s two episodes left, and I am going to put my input in – I don’t know what happens either.’ 

Elsewhere the Daily Mail revealed Stephen had a brutal clash with historian David Olusoga during scenes cut from the show.

The pair locked horns during intense discussions over who was a Traitor, leading to a behind-the-scenes fallout that saw the pair fuming at one another.

Insiders said it was ‘surprising’ to see Stephen so impassioned during the debate, but it showed how invested both he and David were in filming the series.

A TV insider told the Daily Mail: ‘Stephen and David had a big argument, as they both accused each other of being a Traitor.

‘They were so invested in the game, and it really showed during their debates.

‘For some members of the cast, it was surprising to see the pair disagree, and it quickly became a talking point behind the scenes.

‘The discussions between them are unlikely to be shown on Celebrity Traitors, as producers felt they didn’t follow the narrative. There were lots of subplots and conversations that haven’t aired.

‘The irony is, neither Stephen nor David were Traitors, so they fell out for no reason, but that’s just part of the hilarity of the game.’

However, a Traitors spokesperson insisted: ‘To claim there was any tension between Stephen Fry and David Olusoga outside of the game is simply untrue.’

Finalist Nick Mohammad has also dished the tea as he revealed at one point tensions hit fever pitch behind-the-scenes, after one contestant ‘kicked off’ over being denied a ‘basic human right’.

While the comedian gushed that he ‘absolutely adored’ his experience, he explained how the contestants are completely isolated from the outside world which came with its challenges. 

Speaking to Stuart Goldsmith on The Comedian’s Comedian Podcast, the Ted Lasso star said: ‘All your devices are taken from you. I was allowed one phone conversation a day with the kids. You are isolated from the outside world.

‘We weren’t even allowed to know the time. So when we were in the castle, you’d be like “What’s the time?” And they’d be like “It’s Traitors time”.’

While Nick didn’t reveal the identity of the particularly aggrieved player he continued: ‘Every single member of production had to just answer with that until someone kicked off and they said, “It’s a basic human right, you can just tell us the time, it doesn’t mean anything!”.’
