Appearing angry after the experience, the heavily tattooed Tennessee-born artist began: 'Hey man, the Louis Vuitton in Sydney, legitimately just treated us like we were finna (sic) come in and rob that place'

Being an A-list celebrity doesn’t always guarantee that you’re going to get A-list treatment while shopping at designer stores.

Over the past few years, many celebrities have called out high-end shops for mistreating them, as they’ve publicized the fact that they received less-than-stellar service in store.

While they might expect the best of the best, they’re certainly not always getting it.

Some of the biggest brand names that have been called out include Louis Vuitton and Chanel.

The experience seems to have touched everyone in Hollywood, too, from Oprah all the way to Jennifer Lopez.

Daily Mail has taken a look back at all the celebrities who have been rejected from designer stores and subsequently called them out for mistreatment.

Jelly Roll recently slammed a Louis Vuitton store in Sydney

Earlier this week, while shopping on a trip to Sydney, Australia, rapper Jelly Roll slammed his experience at a Louis Vuitton store.

He claimed that he was ‘treated like a criminal’ while at the shop.

Wearing a baseball cap backwards and dressed in his trademark sweats, Jelly Roll – real name Jason DeFord – was photographed outside the famed A-list shop.

Appearing angry after the experience, the heavily tattooed Tennessee-born artist began: ‘Hey man, the Louis Vuitton in Sydney, legitimately just treated us like we were finna (sic) come in and rob that place.

‘I have never been looked at more like a crim… Listen, the last time I was looked at like a criminal this bad… I was an actual criminal this bad.’

He didn’t provide further details about what happened while he was inside the shop, but it didn’t appear that he had purchased anything from the brand this time around.

Louis Vuitton did not respond publicly to his claims but Daily Mail reached out for comment.

Jelly Roll’s experience at the designer store comes just a few months after he said his recent 200-pound weight loss allows him to fit into clothes made by Louis Vuitton.

The 40-year-old began steadily losing weight in 2022. He started from 540lbs, and is now down to 357lbs.

After performing at the Grace for the World concert, held in St. Peter’s Square in Vatican City this September, he took to Instagram to share his concert outfit.

'I can fit in Louis Vuitton now. Pray for my bank account,' he joked in his caption to his more than five million followers on the social media platform

Bethenny Frankel had some nasty words for Chanel

In May 2024, former Real Housewives of New York star Bethenny Frankel took to TikTok to blast Chanel after she was rejected from shopping at their Chicago store.

She posted an impassioned video to her Instagram account at the time, describing how she had tried to do some shopping at the Chanel store while dressed in casual clothing.

But when she arrived, a security guard allegedly wouldn’t let her enter because she didn’t have an appointment at the luxury store.

Daily Mail reached out for comment but the brand did not publicly speak out about the alleged incident.

The Skinnygirl founder also noted that she was wearing casual clothes and carrying a ‘basic-b**** purse, though it wasn’t clear if her attire could have played an unspoken role in her being refused entry.

Frankel seethed at allegedly being ‘treated like you’re an interloper.’

‘I didn’t realize we weren’t allowed to walk into stores anymore. Gotta get a pap smear appointment and also to walk into Chanel. No big deal,’ she added dismissively.

She had a more measured response in her post’s caption, in which she said that ‘security is critical’ because ‘crime is at an all-time high.’

In her caption, Frankel added that she ‘could easily call one of my salespeople and get on this [appointment] list.

After the incident, she then made a series of follow-up videos about the brand, and later revealed that September why the incident had initially made her so upset.

‘99.9 per cent of the people can’t afford to buy a Chanel bag or piece of clothing, so they’re going in there and buying the lip gloss, or buying the entry point thing, and that those were the exact people that this incident alienated,’ she explained in the video posted to TikTok last Fall.

The mogul emphasized that it wasn’t the fact that she wasn’t let in during that one day in May that bothered her, but it was the way that she was spoken to that was troubling.

She said that it’s supposed to feel exciting to walk into a store, but you then feel like a ‘fool’ once you’re turned away.

Plus, the BStrong philanthropist admitted that she’s not the only person who has had this experience while shopping – she said that many people have since come up to her to say that they’ve faced the same issue.

‘So, for a big multimillion dollar brand that does twenty billion a year, to make you feel like a schmuck for daring to want to walk inside and gaze at their thing when you’ve bought a lip gloss or a fragrance for someone, now you lost me,’ Frankel lamented.

However, she admitted that she does still wear Chanel.

‘I do still wear Chanel, I own it, I can troll them all they want, I paid for it with my own money,’ she said.

The Swiss Tourism Board apologized to Oprah Winfrey after she faced discrimination in a handbag shop

In 2013, while she was in Switzerland for Tina Turner’s wedding, Oprah Winfrey described a problematic experience she had while inside a handbag shop in Zurich called Trois Pommes.

According to CNN, Oprah had asked to see a $38,000 crocodile skin bag designed by Tom Ford, when the sales associate allegedly told her that it was too expensive.

‘I was in Zurich the other day at a store whose name I will not mention. I didn’t have my eyelashes on, but I was in full Oprah Winfrey gear,’ she told Entertainment Tonight at the time, per CNN.

‘I had my little Donna Karan skirt and sandals, but obviously The Oprah Winfrey Show is not shown in Zurich.’

Oprah explained that she had asked to see the bag, but was denied.

‘No no no, you don’t want to see that one, you want to see this one, because that one will cost too much and you will not be able to afford that,’ Oprah claimed the sales associate said.

She said that she tried for a final time to ask for the bag, but was unsuccessful.

‘One more time I tried – I said, “But I really do just want to see that one,” and she said, “I don’t want to to hurt your feelings,” and I said, “Ok thank you so much, you’re probably right, I can’t afford it and walked out of the store. Now why did she do that?”‘ Oprah recalled at the time.

At the time, the incident made major headlines as a ‘racist incident’ and even resulted in an official apology to Oprah from the Swiss Tourism Board.

‘We are fuming – this person acted terribly wrong. We are sorry this happened to Oprah,’ the Switzerland Tourism Board tweeted in response at the time, per UPI.

The manager of the boutique also spoke out, denying any claims of racism, per Today.

In July, Jennifer Lopez was turned away from a Chanel store while shopping in Istanbul, Turkey, after security did not recognize her.

Daily Mail previously reported that the A-list star had been wandering around a shopping center in the Turkish city and attempted to enter a Chanel store before a guard told her ‘We’re full.’

Unfazed by the snub, J.Lo apparently said ‘Okay, no problem,’ before walking into a different store.

Later, it was reported by Turkish media that the mom-of-two spent thousands of dollars in Celine and Beymen, a chain of luxury stores in country.

Despite being refused entry, Chanel later changed their mind after realizing who she was and invited her back to store, which J.Lo declined.

Even royalty gets turned away sometimes, too.

According to Marie Claire, Princess Diana was once turned away by Bellville Sassoon’s London studio as she was trying to pick out an outfit for her engagement announcement to King Charles.

However, when she went to the store by herself on a Friday night, those working in the store didn’t recognize her.

The staff suggested that she go over to buy something at Harrod’s, London’s most famous department store, instead.

For her engagement announcement, Princess Diana did end up wearing a blue Cojana suit that she in fact bought from the department store.
