Andy Cohen said Meghan Markle was 'gleeful' at getting to publicly throw it 'in his face' that he'd forgotten ever meeting her during an 'awkward interaction' on her podcast

Andy Cohen said Meghan Markle was ‘gleeful’ at getting to publicly throw it ‘in his face’ that he’d forgotten ever meeting her before she became a royal during an ‘awkward interaction’ on the latest episode of her podcast this week.

The Watch What Happens Live host, 54, appeared on Tuesday’s episode of Markle’s Archetypes, during which he introduced himself to her, saying it was ‘nice to meet her’, only for the Duchess to ‘happily’ remind him that they’d actually met twice in the past.

Now, in an episode of his SiriusXM show Andy Cohen Live, the TV producer has joked that Markle threw the slip-up ‘in his face’, while hinting that he considered her something of a ‘whatever’ person when they met for the first time.

‘She was gleeful in telling me, I have to say. She was so happy to tell me that,’ he said, but added: ‘I understand why she would want to throw that in my face, basically.

‘I understand, you know, you never forget how you were treated. You’re still the same person – she’s still Meghan Markle.’

However he admitted that he had no idea Meghan would be keeping that ‘awkward’ moment in, saying that he ‘got it’ but that he found the move ‘interesting’ on her part.

‘I just have to say, I get why she left that in. I thought that was so interesting,’ he said.

Cohen went on to hint that he considered Meghan something of a ‘whatever’ person back when they first met, saying: ‘First of all, you never know who you meet in a day.

‘But listen, I didn’t become a Duchess obviously… I became an old queen talk show host.

‘And when I was a young queen I remember meeting people who were “whatever”, so I just think it’s interesting. It’s really interesting.’

The ‘awkward’ interaction between Meghan and Andy unfolded at the start of their interview, when the TV host told the Duchess it was ‘nice to meet’ her – only for her to reply: ‘It’s good to see you. I’ve met you before, [but] you’ll never remember it.’

Cohen was shocked he had previously met the former actress and Markle then explained she first met at USA-Bravo event and added that she was a ‘huge fan ‘of the Real Housewives executive producer.

‘I was so eager to be on your show, because I was such a Housewives fan at the time, and I just couldn’t get booked Andy!’ Markle said, before quipping, ‘So, thanks for being here with me.’

She then noted the pair met a second time when she attended a WHHL taping with her Suits costar Gabriel Macht, however, the Duchess wasn’t a guest on the hit show.

Cohen explained that when Markle added that she came to a WWHL taping ‘before’, he felt ‘a little worse’.

He then admitted that rejecting the former actress an appearance was ‘the biggest blunder in the 13 years of the show,’ adding that he’d now be ‘begging’ for her to come to the show.

He also explained that they may have denied her because of her relationship with Prince Harry.

‘I had that feeling when basically we started to kind of forensically figure out if it was you, because we had a sense. ‘We were like, “I think she may be a Housewives fan, but even worse, Andy, we think we didn’t have her on the show.’

During the Archetypes podcast, Markle also discussed her love for the Real Housewives with Cohen before adding that she stopped watching the drama-filled reality show when her own life became more ‘dramatic’ – which fans assumed was a nod to her relationship with Prince Harry and joining the Royal family.

After she confessed to being a fan of the reality TV show, Cohen, one of the three male guests to appear on the Archetypes podcast, said: ‘I guess the million dollar question is, do you still watch the Housewives? This is what we’ve been dying to know.’

Markle replied: ‘Well, I will tell you the truth. I stopped watching the Housewives when my life had its own level of drama.

‘That I stopped…’ Cohen finished her sentence, saying: ‘craving other people’s.’

Markle agreed and said: ‘I get why it was such a huge huge part of pop culture and when it began because you began with Orange County and I’m from California, at least.’

‘It felt remotely like a world that I knew but still felt so foreign,’ she added.

Cohen then explained there were rumors swirling around regarding a possible appearance from the Duchess on the Beverly Hills series of the franchise after her and Harry stepped down from royalty and moved to the states.

Markle laughed off the rumors and emphasized that she wouldn’t be starring in any reality shows any time soon.

Markle’s Spotify podcast deal is said to be worth $18million and episode 12 of her show is finally completed two years after the contract was signed with the streaming giant.

At the beginning of the podcast, Markle admitted that her husband was actually the one who suggested she start bringing men to the show that is currently 29 in the Spotify charts, to ‘shift the gender debate’.

She said: ‘Now, if you’ve been listening to the past eleven episodes, you may have noticed that you haven’t heard many men’s voices, in fact, until now outside of a quick pop, in, from my husband, in the first episode, this show has featured exclusively women’s voices.

‘It was important to us that women have a space to share their authentic and complicated complex and dynamic experiences to be heard. And to be understood.

‘But through that process it also occurred to me, and truth be told at the suggestion of my husband, that if we really want to shift how we think about gender and the limiting labels that we separate people into, then we have to broaden the conversation.

‘And we have to actively include men in that conversation and certainly in that effort. So today we are doing just that we’re opening it all up breaking out of the box’.

The former Suits star has spoken to three men – host of The Daily Show Trevor Noah, movie director Judd Apatow and Cohen – for their views on ‘the labels and tropes that try to hold women back’.

When she spoke to the host of The Daily Show, he opened up about the shooting of his South African mother Patricia Noah at the hands of his stepfather, mechanic Abel Shingange, saying that ‘all [he] felt was rage’ in the wake of the horrifying incident.

Trevor, 38, added that he and his mother depended on each other and he quickly became the man of the house.

He said: ‘I remember my mom saying to me when I was very young, she said, remember you can be the head of your household as a man without owning a cent more than your woman said you can earn nothing.

‘She said being a man has nothing to do with with how you wield your power in the household. It’s just how you fulfill your role’.

Last month, The Daily Show host was involved in conflict with the Prime Minister after he called the UK a racist country and claimed there was outcry that ‘Indians are going to take over’ after Rishi Sunak was appointed Prime Minister.

In a video posted on Twitter from The Daily Show, Trevor added: ‘Watching the story of Rishi Sunak becoming England’s first Prime Minister of color, of Indian descent, of all these things and then seeing the backlash is one of the more telling things about how people view the role that they or their people have played in history.

‘And what I mean by that is this, you hear a lot of the people saying “Oh, they’re taking over, now the Indians are going to take over Great Britain and what’s next?”

‘And I always find myself going: “So what? What are you afraid of?”‘

He then suggested the fear was on the basis of those who have been previously oppressed taking revenge against their tormentors.

Tom Holland, the historian, author and podcaster, said: ‘As ever, the inability of American liberals to understand the world beyond the US in anything but American terms is a thing of wonder.

‘The likelihood of the right-wing party in the US choosing a Hindu as its leader is, I would agree, effectively zero.’
