Anti-Semitism Task Force Cuts Ties – HotAir

Whatever Kevin Roberts tried to say on Wednesday, it didn’t work. The embattled president of the Heritage Foundation apologized to staffers in a closed-door meeting for the damage he caused by attacking critics of Nick Fuentes and Tucker Carlson, while explaining that he hadn’t actually bothered to learn anything about Fuentes before accusing their critics of being part of a “venomous coalition.” Roberts then declared (after the video leaked) that he plans to remain to keep fighting.

That didn’t go over well at all with Heritage’s ally in fighting anti-Semitism. The National Task Force to Combat Antisemitism had partnered with Heritage two years ago after the Hamas atrocities that slaughtered 1200 men, women, and children in Israel and touched off a wave of Jew-hatred in the US. The NTFCA has decided to part ways with Heritage, at least under current management, for this “sesson”:

A task force dedicated to fighting antisemitism is leaving the Heritage Foundation as the conservative think tank grapples with the fallout from its president’s defense of a Tucker Carlson podcast interview with a prominent white nationalist.

In an email obtained by The New York Times, four leaders of the National Task Force to Combat Antisemitism wrote on Thursday that it was “important for us to continue the work of the N.T.F.C.A. outside the Heritage Foundation for a season.” …

The task force’s departure underscored a deepening rift on the right between conservatives who have long embraced Israel and supporters of President Trump who oppose U.S. support for the country, seeing it as anathema to his “America First” ideology. The tension is playing out at the Heritage Foundation, which has worked to meld its traditional conservatism with populist elements of Mr. Trump’s agenda.

I’m sure that’s what the NYT would like its readers to think. However, Fuentes isn’t on the Right. He has expressed his affection for both Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin at times, and has repeatedly voiced opposition to Donald Trump. The ‘Groypers’ have never had a political home, nibbling on the outside of both parties for decades in one guise or another, until the October 7 massacres finally pushed most of that sentiment to break out into the mainstream Left, especially on college campuses.

As David wrote at length already, Fuentes and Carlson are not allies and are not on the Right.  Ace picked up the argument late yesterday:

I’ve spent the whole day retweeting clips of Nick Fuentes:

1, telling people to vote for Kamala Harris

2, jubilantly gloating that “MAGA” lost Tuesday’s election

3, proclaiming that he will destroy MAGA

And this is the person that Tucker Carlson, Megyn Kelly, and Matt Walsh tell us we must not “cancel” because he’s “on our side” and we have no enemies to the right?

Even though he declares himself to be the right’s enemy every chance he gets? …

If Tucker Carlson can continue endlessly attempting to eject — to “cancel” — Mark Levin, Ted Cruz, and Ben Shapiro from his ‘Face It, Hitler was Cool” movement, then we are allowed to similarly eject, to “cancel,” him.

Period.

Roberts’ explanation and apology simply don’t work in this context. His initial statement assumed the worst of Heritage’s actual allies by calling them a “venomous coalition” while defending conservatism’s opponents and flat-out radical cranks. One would expect a think tank to have already had some expertise on these issues already, let alone attempting to perform it before accusing its friends of being malicious in their opposition to anti-Semites and neo-Nazis, and media figures who offer them softball interviews in an attempt to mainstream them.

If Heritage doesn’t exist to separate conservatism from the anti-Semites and neo-Nazis, what is its purpose?

That existential question is what is apparently pushing NTFCA to leave “for a season,” as they put it. That sends a very clear message to Heritage’s board, and that message is: This is YOUR time for choosing. Will they choose the path of incompetence and confusion, or will Heritage choose to bring in fresh leadership that knows and understands the movement, its opponents, and this crucial political moment?

They had better choose wisely, and they had better choose soon.
