A bride with alopecia has revealed the heartwarming reason why she chose to ditch her wig when she walked down the aisle – and said it was ‘the most beautiful’ she has ever felt.
Dani G from Newcastle upon Tyne was just two years old when she was diagnosed with alopecia universalis after her mother Julie, 57, noticed patches of her hair falling out.
By the time she was a teen, she had lost all the hair on her scalp and body, leading her to wear wigs throughout most of her life.
Fast forward to her wedding day in May this year, and Dani, 27, surprised guests when she decided to say ‘I do’ while embracing her natural look.
Dani, a content creator, met her husband Jack Willis, 32, in 2018 at the gym while she was competing as a swimmer – and wasn’t wearing her wig. The pair went on to date for five years before getting engaged in May 2023.
Tying the knot in Crete, Greece, in front of an intimate crowd of 20 of their nearest and dearest in May 2025, Dani surprised guests by walking down the aisle without her wig.
Elsewhere during her special day, she chose to wear two different wigs, a blonde up-do for her dinner and speeches, and a long brunette number for the evening party.
Undecided until the day of the wedding as to whether she would get married without her wig, Dani posted a full wig series on social media to help decide which she would wear for her wedding.

Now six months into married life, Dani said the moment she tied the knot with Jack was ‘the most beautiful’ she has ever felt.
Dani said: ‘We met at the back end of 2018, it was actually because I was a swimmer at the time.
‘So I was at the gym for swimming, and he was also at the gym – we probably crossed paths for five years in the gym but never really spoke.
‘I suppose it’s kind of that invisible string theory. I was at the gym and met him without a wig and without a stitch of makeup on.
‘Going wigless down the aisle was something he had mentioned before we’d even gotten engaged.
‘Obviously, we got engaged, and I was looking at different wigs and dresses, stuff like that.
‘I asked him again at that point and said “What do you think I should do?” I have so many choices?
‘He said I’d love to marry you and see how I fell in love with you on that day.

‘He never pressured me. Obviously, the decision was down to me on the wedding day. I wanted to feel my most confident self and didn’t really know before that if I could.
‘On the day I felt super confident, it’s one of the most beautiful times I’ve ever felt.’
Dani started sharing content online in 2017, posting makeup looks without her wigs before going full-time as a content creator in 2022.
She said: ‘I started posting online just makeup tutorials, it wasn’t necessarily to be like about alopecia awareness in the beginning, it was just because I enjoy makeup.
‘My parents brought me up to be confident and beautiful, whether I wanted to wear a wig or not.
‘I would always go out without my wig or makeup because I was training for swimming two times a day.
‘I think people were amazed at how confident I was and how open I was. A lot of women go through hair loss and it’s not talked about or shown. That’s where it all started.’

Having said he would like to see Dani on their wedding day, ‘how he met me’, Dani decided to go ahead and walk down the aisle with her father, Lance, 58, without her wig.
‘Obviously I had a lot of time to think about it and plan it but I was still trying on wigs before the day came about, but I decided I wanted to do it for Jack but also for myself to prove I can still feel amazing,’ she said.
‘I’m so happy that I did it on the day and as well it felt like because I didn’t have my hair there it allowed for me to show off my face basically, and like Jack said that’s the thing he fell in love with me for.’
Dani opted to change into a blonde updo for her wedding and speeches, before changing into her evening gown and a brunette wig for the party.
‘The reason for doing that was just because it’s kind of like me anyway to change up my look so much.
‘I thought it’s very fitting if I do multiple looks, and that’s why I included the blonde updo, and I actually got a second dress as well.
‘I went and got changed into my night time dress and went for a brunette wig that I kept down at that point.’
Sharing her wedding day online, Dani says the ‘support and love’ she received was overwhelming.

She said: ‘Reading comments from people going through hair loss or have had hair loss, most people were saying it gave them hope or encouragement – the hope that a single video can give to people is the best thing ever.’
Husband Jack added: ‘As soon as I saw Danielle from the get-go, I was pretty sure Danielle was my person.
‘Obviously I wanted her to go down the aisle without a wig on as it was where we first met.
‘I know she’s such a confident woman and know she just oozes positivity. I love my wife a lot and she’s my best friend really.’
