Rebecca Judd has caused a firestorm after she wrote on Instagram: 'Melbourne this is sad. Woke, broke and violent. I can't believe we are living like this,' in response to an interview between 3AW radio's Jacqui Felgate and Sandringham Liberal MP, Brad Rowswell

Rebecca Judd has slammed Melbourne as ‘woke, broke and violent’ after residents were encouraged to put Apple AirTags in their cars amid a crimewave in the city.

The footy WAG, who lives in a $7.3million mansion in Brighton, was drawn to comment on an interview between 3AW radio’s Jacqui Felgate and Sandringham Liberal MP, Brad Rowswell.

During the talk, Mr Rowswell was asked about a rise in violent crime in Melbourne’s suburbs.

The MP was asked about a suggestion at a community safety forum in Beaumaris last Thursday that residents consider placing AirTag trackers inside their cars in case they are stolen – something Judd took issue with.

‘Melbourne this is sad. Woke, broke and violent. I can’t believe we are living like this,’ Judd wrote online.

Mr Rowswell said during the interview that police had said at the meeting that ‘you can replace a car but you can’t replace a life’.

He continued: ‘I get that but that’s a decision we’re having to make in Victoria at the moment, certainly in metropolitan Melbourne. It’s a pretty crappy decision to make.

‘Their advice was leave your keys on the kitchen bench and get an AirTag and pop it in the boot of your car because some of these crooks know how to disable the tracking system on some of the modern cars.’

Victoria Police clarified that it was not instructing people to place AirTags in their cars, but that the issue had been brought up at the meeting.

Judd has been outspoken on crime in Melbourne – particularly in her well-heeled Bayside suburb – and her comments came after a fresh outbreak of violence in Melbourne this weekend.

A woman was stabbed by a trio of knifemen who are still on the run after robbing three supermarkets and stealing a car.

The three young men, who were believed to be travelling around Melbourne’s outer suburbs in a stolen white Mercedes hatchback, first targeted an IGA supermarket on Bernard Street in Cheltenham, 26km south of the CBD, where they leapt the counter and assaulted a worker.

It is reported that the same men headed to a Dockendorff grocer on Cochran Street in Brighton, 10km away, for a second robbery 30 minutes later.

At least three workers were assaulted, including a young female staffer who was stabbed and left with minor injuries.

A third supermarket in Burwood is also believed to have been targeted by the men.

Judd’s comments led social media users to weigh in with their opinions, with many supporting her on X.

‘Bec Judd speaks the truth,’ wrote one person, while another agreed: ‘Bec Judd may be an influencer. But she is spot on regards “woke, broke and violent”.’

Another person wrote: ‘For anyone living in Melbourne, they know what Bec Judd is saying is.’

‘Accurate, the fact people put more focus on who is delivering the message than the message itself, says more about them than her,’ said another.

A further social media user added: ‘Never thought I’d agree with Bec Judd… how’s Labour’s police force? ‘Just leave the keys on the bench’… why do the whacky left support crime.’

‘Bec Judd, the notoriously hard working, boot strappy *checks notes* Wife of a multi-millionaire ex-professional athlete,’ joked one.

‘Some cutting edge analysis from respected criminologist Bec Judd,’ wrote another.

Another user said: ‘I’m most amused that anyone would care one iota about the opinion of Bec Judd. I’d rather listen to my cat’s opinion on her favourite crunchies.’

In March, Judd called out Victoria Premier Jacinta Allan after a home invasion in Bayside left an elderly man fighting for his life.

Three offenders broke into a home in Beaumaris, a stone’s throw from Judd’s mansion, where they attacked the man.

His wife, 75, who was also at home at the time, was not injured. Nothing was believed to be stolen.

In June 2022, Rebecca said she felt 'unsafe' in her mansion and that she was 'so sick of the rapes, bashings and home invasions at the hands of the gangs in Bayside'

‘Just another night in Victoria (yes, this is Bayside again but we know this happens everywhere),’ Judd told her Instagram followers at the time.

‘Jacinta Allan how are you still avoiding this? Let’s see how many of the alleged offenders are out on bail… Thoughts are with the victim in ICU and his poor wife.’

In June 2022, Judd said she felt ‘unsafe’ in her mansion and that she was ‘so sick of the rapes, bashings and home invasions at the hands of the gangs in Bayside’.

‘I personally know two women who have experienced home invasions in Brighton in the last few weeks while they were at home,’ she said.

She also reposted CCTV footage of a gang of young men lurking outside properties in her affluent suburb and claimed it made her feel ‘unsafe’.

The footy WAG has continually demanded Ms Allan ‘fix the system’.

In March, she had her demands validated after state opposition Liberal MP James Newbury posted crime statistics outlining that there are 16 home invasions each day in Victoria, and a 43 per cent increase in aggravated burglaries in Bayside.

‘Pretty sure someone warned the government about this in 2022 and was rubbished,’ Judd commented.

‘They didn’t care then and they don’t care now. This is a Vic wide issue and not just Bayside.’

Judd resides in a $7.3million Spanish colonial mansion in Brighton, Melbourne.

She and her husband Chris share four children; daughter Billie, nine, son Oscar, 12, and twins Darcy and Tom, seven.
