'Better Call Saul' star quits Amazon job, already on the hunt for next non-acting gig

The “Better Call Saul” actor who revealed he was driving a delivery truck for Amazon has quit and is looking for a new position — all while continuing to chase new acting roles.

John Christian Love exclusively spoke with Page Six Tuesday after his Reddit post about his delivery gig went viral.

“Quick update — I actually quit Amazon a few days ago,” he shared, noting that he is currently interviewing for other non-acting jobs and applied to several roles before handing in his notice.

The actor (seen here in “Better Call Saul” with co-star Bob Odenkirk) shared that he handed in his notice a few days ago. AMC

“The rural routes were destroying my body,” he explained, referring to his pre-existing health issues from scoliosis and Scheuermann’s disease, a condition that causes back pain.

However, Love, 35, called the contracted-out position “the latest chapter” in his “much bigger story.”

“Acting has never paid the bills on its own — not even with 11 episodes of ‘Better Call Saul,’” he said. “I’ve always had to grind regular jobs, and I pour 110 percent into every single one of them, just like I do with every role.”

The actor — who studied film at the now-shuttered Santa Fe University of Art and Design — explained that he has had to work regular jobs his entire life while also pursuing his passion for the arts.

“I’ve never been able to just sustain on just acting alone,” he said. “I’ve always had day jobs.”

Love shared that he had high hopes when he was cast in the film “Lone Wolf” with Brian Cranston, Lily Gladstone and Chet Hanks, only for the project to halt filming in February 2025 due to financial issues.

Love said he was never paid for his work on the movie.

“This just happened to be one of those bizarre cases where the production company ran out of money,” he said.

Love shared that his real motivator to keep chasing his Hollywood dreams is the loss of his brother, who died while working at his day job.

“I’m not working a job and that’s it, and that’s the end of my life,” he said. “No, I got to do it for all of my loved ones.”

While Love keeps in touch with his former co-stars like Rhea Seehorn, he has never asked for any favors and doesn’t plan to.

“I don’t want to be like, ‘Hey, can you do such and such favor for me?’ I’m like my work, I just want it to speak for itself. And, you know, let that do the justice,” he said.

Love is continuing to audition for roles, and just recenty tried out for a show called “Southern Bastards,” and a spin-off series of “Snowfall.” But Love would ideally want to land a role in a feature film or be a series regular in a TV show.

“I would love a feature film where I’m a leading man in the film, whether it’s a B-list, C-list,” he said.

Love hopes that someone will hear his story and give him a shot at his next big break, referring to how “The Cosby Show” alum Geoffrey Owens got job offers after a video went viral of him working at Trader Joe’s.

For Love, it’s not a matter of “if” he’ll return to acting — but “when.”

“It’s what I love,” he said, “But I still got to pay bills.”

Last month, Love shared a post on Reddit revealing that he was driving a delivery truck for the Jeff Bezos-owned business.

“Just want yall to know that as the actor who brought you the character ‘Ernesto/Ernie’ in Better Call Saul, that I too am out here delivering with you!” Love wrote. “It sucks. But 1 delivery at a time. Be blessed out there!”

Love shared in the post that he has also worked as a mail carrier, FedEx driver, and UPS seasonal driver.

“My hope is that everyone will do what they love doing, and not let anyone deduce them to a 9-5 slave,” he said.

Before his role alongside Bob Odenkirk, Love appeared in 13 episodes of “Friday Night Lights” as well as the 2016 films “Whiskey Tango Foxtrot” and “Independence Day: Resurgence.”
