Billie Eilish revealed that she is “physically attracted” to women during a candid interview for Variety’s “The Power of Women” issue.
In the interview published Monday, the “Bad Guy” singer revealed that despite feeling a pull towards women, she has always felt like it wasn’t reciprocated.
“I’ve never really felt like I could relate to girls very well,” the 21-year-old said. “I love them so much. I love them as people. I’m attracted to them as people. I’m attracted to them for real.”
“I have deep connections with women in my life, the friends in my life, the family in my life,” she continued. “I’m physically attracted to them. But I’m also so intimidated by them and their beauty and their presence.”
While Eilish didn’t elaborate on whether or not she would be open to having a romantic relationship with another woman, she did touch on how her own self confidence — or lack thereof — has impacted her dating life and perception of womanhood.
“I’ve never felt like a woman, to be honest with you,” she revealed. “I’ve never felt desirable. I’ve never felt feminine.”
“I have to convince myself that I’m, like, a pretty girl,” the singer, who split from Jesse Rutherford in May, continued.
Part of the way Eilish — who clarified that she identifies as “she/her” — coped with these feelings was by dressing exclusively in oversized outfits to hide her figure.

“I wasn’t trying to have people not sexualize me,” she explained. “But I didn’t want people to have access to my body, even visually. I wasn’t strong enough and secure enough to show it.”
“If I had shown it at that time, I would have been completely devastated if people had said anything,” the singer said.
Yet regardless, the “What Was I Made For” singer has dealt with people scrutinizing her body and sexuality for years, which she called “weird and upsetting.”

Although she rarely talks about her dating life, the singer often slams internet trolls for commenting on her body, which she is still learning to deal with after nearly a decade in the public eye.
In June, the seven-time Grammy winner told Vogue that she still has a “tough” time dealing with the never-ending comments about her body.
“Honestly, nobody can say anything about my body that I don’t have a stronger opinion about… I also think that if I was younger, like if the internet talked about me the way they do now when I was like 11, I don’t think I would be able to exist, to be honest,” she told the outlet.
“I like myself more than I used to, and I’m more interested in how I feel than how they feel. But then also that might be a load of bulls–t because it still hurts my feelings like a son of a b–h.”
