General manager Brandon Beane of the Buffalo Bills.

The Buffalo Bills are the topic of conversation on Monday afternoon following the NFL’s Divisional Round of the playoffs.

Josh Allen’s Bills were unable to get it done with a heartbreaking overtime loss on Saturday afternoon. It was apparently one too many playoff heartbreaks for owner Terry Pagula as he announced early Monday morning that the Bills would be firing head coach Sean McDermott after seven playoff berths in eight years.

This was an unexpected kick to the gut for Bills fans, but the real kicker came with the next set of news to come out of Orchard Park. Somewhat maligned general manager Brandon Beane would not be going down with the ship.

In fact, Beane earned a promotion.

In the very same press release that announced McDermott’s firing, Beane was named the President of Football Operations.

Many fans have their problems with the choice because they feel like Buffalo’s front office has done a poor job of surrounding reigning MVP quarterback Josh Allen with talent.

Is their merrit to their case? You tell me.

Here’s every wide receiver the Buffalo Bills have signed since 2024.

Every Wide Receiver Brandon Beane Signed Since 2024

In 2023, wide receiver Stefon Diggs ended his four-year run in Buffalo with four-straight 100-yard seasons. He averaged 1,343 yards per season and hauled in more than 100 receptions each season.

Beane and the Bills let the three-time captain sign with the Houston Texans as a free agent on a four-year, $26 million AAV deal. Diggs played one year in Houston before going to the New England Patriots to complete yet another 1,000-yard season and help the team advance to the AFC Conference Championship game.

Surely, the general manager who will be going into his ninth season with the Bills had a plan for his departure? Right?

Right?

Wrong unfortunately.

Fantasy expert and analyst Ian Hartitz compiled this list of wide receivers Buffalo has signed since letting Diggs walk:

Josh Palmer, Curtis Samuel, Brandin Cooks, Gabe Davis, Elijah Moore, Mack Hollins, Mecole Hardman, Tyrell Shavers, Laviska Shenault, Quintez Cephus, Chase Claypool, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, KJ Hamler, Jalen Virgil

The Problem With Beane’s Signings

While some of these signings represent a genuine attempt at improvement, such as Joshua Palmer and Curtis Samuel, it is almost worse for a front office and scouting department to completely misjudge the type of player they are signing.

Samuel was the Bills’ 2024 big swing. He signed a three-year, $24 million contract worth up to $30 million.

The Carolina Panthers draft pick had a career-high 851 yards in 2020 in his fourth season in the league. He then went to the Washington Commanders for three years, where he topped out at 656 yards and caught less than 70% of his 192 targets.

He recorded just 81 yards this season.

Palmer was the Bills’ 2025 big swing. He signed a nearly identical contract to Samuel’s this offseason.

Palmer averaged 500 yards per season in his first four years in the league with the Los Angeles Chargers.

He caught just 22 passes in 12 games played this season.

The other 12 signings were low-risk, low-reward contracts that all served as temporary Band-Aids, hoping to make up for the disappointing wide receiving room assembled.

There has been minimal financial stake placed in the Bills’ wide receivers, and their returns have displayed that. The Bills’ wide receiving room has been consistently pointed out as the biggest flaw of Beane’s tenure, and the inability to address the team’s biggest weakness meakes the promotion perplexing at best.
