Bills HC Joe Brady Shares Update on Josh Allen's Foot Injury

Josh Allen had surgery on his foot this offseason.

If he’s not the most valuable player in the NFL, Josh Allen surely is the most important player to his team.

So the Buffalo Bills rookie head coach Joe Brady updated Allen’s foot injury, which plagued him at the end of the season, and shared why he is “not worried” about the superstar quarterback’s long-term prognosis.

Allen finished third in MVP voting behind Matthew Stafford of the Los Angeles Rams and Drake Maye of the New England Patriots in 2025 — one season after claiming his first AP NFL MVP award. The Bills QB led all NFL quarterbacks in rushing yards (579) and finished third in the NFL in rushing touchdowns (14) last year.

Joe Brady is ‘Not Worried’ About Josh Allen’s Foot

Allen underwent a minor surgery on his foot to repair a broken bone last month, after the Bills’ season-ending 33-30 overtime loss to the Denver Broncos in the AFC Divisional Round.

Allen had been clearly hampered by the foot injury in the late stages of the season, though he still rushed 12 times for 66 yards against the Broncos. To that point, Brady pushed back against any angst he has about his quarterbacks’ injury lingering.

“He just played three games — or however many games — that was,” Brady said. “When a guy gets surgery, yet you guys see him in the games and not blink, there’s one guy you never worry about is Josh Allen.”

Joe Brady is Excited to See Josh Allen Work With Pete Carmichael

Brady is a rookie head coach but one Bills fans know extremely well.

But Bills Mafia may not know the team’s new offensive coordinator, Pete Carmichael, who like Brady is about to be either the most popular man in Western New York or public enemy No. 1 depending on how well he works with Brady, Allen and the team’s offense.

For what it’s worth, Brady put in a ringing endorsement for his new OC, who he worked with for two seasons with the New Orleans Saints.

“I was with Pete for two years in New Orleans, and [he’s] a guy that I looked up to at the highest [level],” Brady said. “I knew if there was ever going to be an opportunity to be a head football coach, I’d want Pete Carmichael on my staff. That was such a huge get for me.”

Carmichael spent 15 seasons as the Saints offensive coordinator, working in tandem with current Broncos coach Sean Payton. Carmichael spent nearly his entire tenure working with Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees and had the No. 1 offense in 2009, the year New Orleans won the Super Bowl.

Carmichael followed Payton to Denver, where he had been a senior offensive assistant to his longtime colleague and offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi. But when Brady got the head coaching role in Buffalo, he knew he needed to reach out to Carmichael.

“A lot of people talk about ‘you’re an offensive playcaller. You’ve got to get your defensive coordinator,’” Brady said. “But Pete was the first call, and that was important for me.”
