The Buffalo Bills season ended on Saturday after losing to the Denver Broncos 33-30 in the AFC Divisional Round.
Now, the Bills will focus on improving the roster in the offseason, and one area that needs improvement is wide receiver.
Buffalo has struggled to find a true No. 1 wide receiver since it traded Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans in the offseason of 2024.
The Bills might consider drafting a wide receiver in the first round of this year’s draft, but they should also explore the option of bringing in a star veteran who could team up with Josh Allen right from the start.
Bills Could Trade For George Pickens
One player expected to create a lot of buzz this offseason is George Pickens, the standout wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys, who is set to hit the free-agent market. However, the Cowboys might apply the franchise tag to him, allowing him to play in Dallas for at least another season. Alternatively, the Cowboys could explore trade options to move him elsewhere.
Dallas is unlikely to let Pickens slip away for nothing, and if the Bills want to secure him, they’ll have to pay a steep price. KD Drummond of Cowboys Wire predicted a trade that would send Pickens to Buffalo. In this scenario, the Bills would need to part ways with their draft picks, specifically No. 26 and No. 90, in this year’s draft.
“The Bills are going to open a new stadium in 2026, but were once again bounced from the playoffs in a season where they expected to reach the Super Bowl,” Drummond wrote on Sunday. “Buffalo has a top-tier QB in Josh Allen, who has finished in the top five in MVP voting four times, including winning in 2024. He could finish in the top five again in 2025, despite the team’s inability to find him a top receiving weapon. Buffalo could easily justify seeing Pickens as the missing piece to its offense, allowing its other receivers to slide down the depth chart.”
Cowboys Should Trade Pickens to Upgrade Defense
Last offseason, the Cowboys made a notable trade to bring in Pickens from the Pittsburgh Steelers, and he truly shone during the season. Over the course of 17 games, Pickens tallied 93 receptions, racked up 1,429 yards, and found the end zone nine times.
The Cowboys should consider re-signing Pickens, as he was truly essential to making the offense special. However, Dallas faced significant defensive issues this season, and it might be wise to use any draft capital from a Pickens trade to target some defensive players.
Dallas already has a handful of solid offensive players, which could make it sensible for them to part ways with Pickens. If the Cowboys are genuinely considering moving on from their star wide receiver, the Bills should reach out to see what it would take to bring him to Buffalo.
The Bills need to be proactive in acquiring star talent because they lack significant depth. Falling short in the playoffs next season would be an inexcusable setback.
