Britain’s Got Talent bosses ‘set to make format change ahead of new series to unlock unseen pool of talent who were previously unable to audition’

Britain’s Got Talent will reportedly be heading to a new location for the first time in three years in the upcoming series to hold auditions to ‘unlock’ a new pool of talent.

In a shake-up of the normal format, it has been claimed Simon Cowell, 63, Amanda Holden, 51, and Alesha Dixon, 44, will head up to the north of England after filming at the London Palladium for the last two series.

They will also reportedly be joined by a new judge to replace David Walliams, 51, after he allegedly quit the show following his leaked off-air derogatory comments against contestants.

Programme bosses are said to be hoping to see new acts which couldn’t afford to travel south for the auditions previously, amid claims viewers were also growing fed up with ‘recycled’ performers from the Got Talent franchise.

For the first time ever, the public can also put forward names of people who they feel deserve and have what it takes to impress the judges and viewers at home.

An insider told The Sun: ”Nominate an act’ has essentially unearthed a whole new pool of talent.

‘Viewers had become critical of the amount of ‘recycled’ acts that had appeared on other Got Talents or were already on the pro circuit, but the new process has already sourced some good undiscovered talent.

‘Being able to audition in Manchester also effectively unlocks the North — some acts just couldn’t afford the travel for a whole troop or choir, for example. It’s all gearing up for a really great new series, now all the pandemic restrictions have lifted too.’

MailOnline has contacted Britain’s Got Talent for comment.

It comes after panellist David was reported to quit the ITV show ahead of its 2023 series, weeks after he was forced to apologise for describing an elderly contestant as a ‘c***’ and making vile sexual remarks about a woman taking part.

The comments, made in January 2020 during auditions at the London Palladium, were picked up on the programme’s microphones and revealed last month.

They left both production company Thames and broadcaster ITV unsure about him returning for the 2023 series.

During the audition, an older performer engaged in banter with the judges in which he made a jibe about David. After the audition, the pensioner left, at which point David is said to have called him a ‘c***’ three times.

In another instance, after a female contestant auditioning on the same show had walked off stage, David remarked: ‘She’s like the slightly boring girl you meet in the pub that thinks you want to f*** them, but you don’t… It’s the last thing on your mind, but she’s like, ‘Yep, I bet you do!’

David, who along with the other judges, Cowell, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon was in talks about returning for a tenth series, is ‘under the microscope’, with some senior staff saying he should be instantly axed.
