Britney Spears says she's 'lucky to be alive' after how her family treated her

Britney Spears candidly admitted that she’s “lucky to be alive” after surviving the way her family treated her.

“As people, all we really want is to feel connected to each other and never feel alone,” the pop star wrote via Instagram Wednesday.

“For those of you in your family that have (sic) said to help you is to isolate you and make you feel unbelievably left out … they were wrong. We can forgive as people but u don’t ever forget.”

“Yearning and longing for contact is always crucial !!!” Spears, 44, continued. “I’m incredibly lucky to even be alive with how my family treated me once in my life and now I’m scared of them.”

The “Toxic” songstress explained that “it’s weird how God works in mysterious ways,’ adding, “My friends, what do you think he is saying today ???”

“Because to be totally honest with you, no matter what he says, they will never take responsibility for what they did.”

The hitmaker concluded that she hadn’t “danced in a month,” saying, “I broke my toe twice!”

A rep for Britney wasn’t immediately available to Page Six for comment.

Britney was entangled in a 13-year conservatorship under her father, Jamie Spears, from 2008 to 2021, giving him control over her finances, medical decisions and personal and professional proceedings.

Before her conservatorship ended, she testified against her father, claiming that he forced her to embark on her 2018 “Piece of Me” tour and Las Vegas residency.

The Grammy winner claimed Jamie drugged her with a “very strong” drug known as lithium when she wasn’t cooperating during rehearsals for her residency.

Britney also stated Jamie forced her into rehab and threatened her not to see her kids — Sean Preston Federline and Jayden James Federline — if she didn’t cooperate.

Additionally, the “Circus” singer shared she was required to be on birth control and prohibited from getting married or having another baby.

Britney vulnerably opened up about her conservatorship in her 2023 memoir, “The Woman in Me,” claiming that her sole purpose was “for no other reason than to help [her family’s] cash flow.”

Court filings showed Jamie awarded himself around $6 million throughout the years of Britney’s conservatorship.

Britney remains estranged from Jamie, with an insider telling Us Weekly in September that there was no chance of reconciling despite the latter’s health issues.

However, she’s worked on “rebuilding” her bond with her mom, Lynn Spears, over the years, though the source told the outlet their relationship is “very fragile” with communication “every few weeks.”

As for Britney and her sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, their relationship has reportedly been on the mend following their famous feud in 2022.

The “Criminal” singer is closest to her brother, Bryan Spears, who moved in with her shortly after her split from ex-husband Sam Asghari in August 2023.
