A broadcaster who has been under fire for his comments about Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift is talking about his intentions.
Plenty of people have spoken out about their thoughts on the relationship between Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs and singer Taylor Swift. In an era when everyone has a mouthpiece on social media, you don’t even have to be famous or in the public eye to make your thoughts known. Era, get it?
Swift has talked about her haters openly before. During an appearance of Travis and his brother Jason’s “New Heights” podcast in August 2025, she said, “”Think of your energy as if it’s expensive, as if it’s like a luxury item. Not everyone can afford it.”
She also talked about how important music is to her life. “I’m in the business of human emotion,” she said. Then, regarding getting her masters back, she said, “I would so much rather lead heart-first in something like this. Because for me, this is not ‘I want to own this asset because of its returns.’ Everything that I’ve ever done is in this catalogue.”
Now, one broadcaster who made headlines with a Swift and Kelce comment is opening up, and he says that the “slip up” was on purpose.
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Comment Was Planned
Broadcaster Tony Romo says that he purposely called Swift as Kelce’s “wife” during an on-air moment that went viral in December 2023, well before Swift and Kelce officially became engaged in August 2025.
Romo called Swift Kelce’s “wife” on broadcasts two times during the 2023 season. In an interview SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash Up on Thursday, January 29, the former Dallas Cowboys player said he did that knowing what he was doing to “kind of play with the fans a little bit.” He added, “I was like, ‘And there’s, I think I said, ‘His wife.’ I did that on purpose and people [were] like, ‘Do you know something…?’”
Romo added, “I was like, ‘Nah, I just wanted to make you guys think for a second,’” adding that it was his way to “just mess with you a little bit.”
Kelce and Swift officially announced their engagement on August 26, 2025, in a social media post. “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” Swift stated in the caption.
Swift released her 12th studio album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” on October 3, and the album has seen record-breaking success. In December 2025, the Recording Industry Association of America’s (RIAA) tally of top-certified albums of the year for 2025 had Swift at No. 1, according to Billboard.
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Wedding Planning
As for wedding planning, expect the event to feature a bevy of flowers. According to a Thursday, January 29, report from The Kansas Star, Kelce and Swift will likely be spending an upwards of $1 million on flowers alone.
Pete Grathoff of The Kansas Star sources an interview in the Providence Journal with Christine Mandese, “a luxury wedding florist” out of East Greenwich, Rhode Island. She tells the outlet that she projects Swift could spend $1 million on flowers, which would buy anywhere from 100,000 to 1 million flowers.
So, those attending the wedding will be treated to not only beautiful scenery with flowers galore but all of those flowers’ fresh scents, too. It’s shaping up to be the wedding of the century.
