Bryan Cranston appears in the nude in the wild new trailer for the upcoming Malcolm In The Middle reboot on Hulu

Bryan Cranston, Frankie Muniz and the rest of the cast of Malcolm In The Middle are reprising their roles for an upcoming reboot – nearly 20 years after the original show went off air.

The hugely popular sitcom ran from 2000 to 2006, and centered around child prodigy Malcolm (played by Muniz) as he navigated life within his dysfunctional family.

And on Thursday, Hulu released a new trailer for Life’s Still Unfair, giving fans another hilarious look at the four-episode revival ahead of the premiere on April 10.

‘After shielding himself and his daughter from his family for over a decade, Malcolm is dragged back into their orbit when Hal and Lois demand his presence at their 40th anniversary party,’ the official synopsis reads.

Along with Muniz, Justin Berfield and Christopher Masterson return as Malcolm’s brothers Reese and Francis, and Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek as Malcolm’s zany parents Hal and Lois.

Cranston, who later found A-list success on the acclaimed AMC hit Breaking Bad, delivers the wildest moment of the new teaser by stripping naked for the camera.

The 70-year-old is seen totally nude, with only a laptop screen shielding his private areas, as Lois (Kaczmarek) shaves his hairy back in the family’s dining area while on Zoom with the couple’s horrified son Dewey, who is now being played by Caleb Ellsworth-Clark.

The show’s original Dewey actor Erik Per Sullivan, 34, is the only original cast member who did not sign on for the reboot.

The trailer shows Ellsworth-Clark speaking in the role for the very first time.

Fans of Malcolm In The Middle were impressed by Ellsworth-Clark’s portrayal as they praised him for nailing Dewey’s ‘facial expressions’ as he reacts in disgust to Hal’s exhibitionist behavior.

However, some viewers weren’t happy with the casting as they brutally described Ellsworth-Clark as the Temu version of Dewey.

As Cranston’s Hal stands in front of the laptop in the buff, Ellsworth-Clark’s Dewey says, ‘you know, I can call back later…’

‘Come on, Dewey. You’ve seen me like this a thousand times,’ Hal replies, before lifting his leg up on the table and signaling Lois to start shaving his ‘undergrowth.’

The trailer then cuts to a grown-up Malcolm, who is now father to a teenage daughter Leah (Keeley Karsten) and happily in love with his girlfriend (Kiana Madeira).

Famously breaking the fourth wall, Malcolm bluntly tells the audience, ‘My life is fantastic. All I have to do is stay completely away from my family.’

Should classic sitcoms risk changing cast and tone when bringing back beloved characters decades later?

Lois, Hal and the rest of Malcolm’s family complain about how Malcolm has ‘been intentionally hiding himself from this family for years’ – signaling that Malcolm has gone no contact with them.

It is Malcolm’s girlfriend who pushes him to ‘make peace’ with his ‘anti-social’ family – prompting him to reveal to her for the first time that he has brothers, which shocks her.

The trailer kicks into a montage of wild scenes, including Hal getting hit in the head with a toaster and Malcolm screaming behind the wheel of a car, as the family forces their way back into his life.

The action-packed trailer concludes with Malcolm’s daughter Leah conducting a secret Zoom call with Lois, Hal, Reese and Francis under a blanket in her bedroom.

Hal, who is known for being emotionally unstable on the show, hilariously asks the teenager, ‘What do you wanna do when you grow up? Crush your father’s soul and make him question his own identity?’

Leah stares at the computer screen with a stunned expression as Lois is forced to intervene by abruptly closing out of the family Zoom call.

The new series also stars Anthony Timpano as Malcolm’s youngest brother Jamie and newcomer Vaughan Murrae as Hal and Lois’s youngest child Kelly.

Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair was announced in December 2024. At the same time, it was confirmed that both Cranston (Hal) and Kaczmarek (Lois) would reprise their roles.

Berfield and Masterson later signed on for the four-episode revival.

The first-ever trailer was released in October 2025 and fans were shocked by how much the cast has changed in the last 20 years.

Reflecting on the experience, Muniz admitted the reboot exceeded his expectations.

‘I’m not exaggerating when I say filming this reboot, like I loved it so much, way more than I ever thought I could have,’ he said on a podcast last year.
