Cameron Young of the United States poses with the winner’s trophy after winning THE PLAYERS Championship 2026 at THE PLAYERS Stadium course at TPC Sawgrass on March 15, 2026.

Despite a strong start at The Players Championship from Ludvig Åberg, the Swedish golfer wasn’t able to hold off a Sunday surge from the competition. After holding the lead earlier in the round, Åberg’s momentum slipped following two costly water shots. The mistakes opened the door for competitors, and he was overtaken by Cameron Young, Matt Fitzpatrick, Xander Schauffele, and Robert MacIntyre.

Young ultimately emerged as the leader after he powered through the back nine to secure his second career victory on the PGA Tour. Young carded a steady final round highlighted by four birdies, including a clutch one at the iconic 17th hole. He then delivered a booming 375-yard drive on the 18th. A shot that set him up for a comfortable chip onto the green, sealing the biggest win of his career.

Young finished Sunday with a 4-under 68, bringing his tournament total to 13-under par and edging out a tightly packed leaderboard down the stretch.

Cameron Young’s History

For Young, the victory marked another important step in what has already been a long road to the winner’s circle. His first career win on the PGA Tour came in August 2025. During which, he made history as the tour’s 1,000th winner.

The breakthrough victory was meaningful considering the near misses that came before it. In his first 93 starts as a professional, Young recorded seven runner-up finishes. He repeatedly found himself close to victory but unable to secure the win.

“It feels like a long time coming,” Young said after earning his first tour win. “I felt like for the first year and a half that I was out here, I had a chance to win every third week, it felt like. They’ve been a bit more few and far between, so to have a chance like this today, I was not going to let it get away from me, and I’m thankful that I didn’t.”

That determination was evident again on Sunday as he battled through the leaderboard at one of golf’s most demanding venues.

The Players Championship

The road to victory wasn’t perfect for Young. On Saturday, he lost his spot in the final pairing after a double bogey on the 18th hole dropped him back in the standings. However, Sunday’s final round at TPC Sawgrass revealed a different side of the rising star.

Young and Fitzpatrick pushed each other throughout the back nine. The two traded key shots as they fed off each other’s energy throughout the tournament.

At the famous island green 17th, Young stepped up and delivered one of the defining moments of the round. With the pin tucked in a dangerous portion of the green, he fired a confident tee shot.  It caught the slope and rolled to within 10 feet of the hole. He calmly drained the birdie putt, drawing cheers from the packed gallery surrounding one of golf’s most recognizable holes.

The final test came on the 18th, where the race for the title tightened between Young and Fitzpatrick. Rising to the moment, Young launched a massive 375-yard drive. The shot set the record for the longest recorded drive on the 18th hole in the ShotLink era while offering Young a straightforward chip, putting him firmly in position to close out the victory.

After the win, Young took a moment to thank his wife, Kelsey. He acknowledged her support, noting that it helped him reach another milestone in his career. With two victories now under his belt, the star appears set for even more bigger moments on the tour stage.
